9 Pretty Simple Pimple Home Remedies

Last updated on January 8, 2019 by Crunchy Betty
9 Pretty Simple Pimple Home Remedies 4

A few weeks ago when I was digging around for a post to “revive” from way in the depths of Crunchy Betty, my first thought was a very, very old post titled 27 Quick and Crunchy Home Remedies for Pimples. It’s a great post, full of fun little ideas for when you have a giant monster on your face and want to treat it quickly. I even used several of the ideas in the Simple Pimple Remedies section of Food on Your Face for Acne and Oily Skin.

There’s just one problem with it.

The picture I used to accompany that post is horrendous. Terrible. Horrifying. I have no idea what I was thinking at the time, and the only excuse I have is that I was a new blogger and thought “different” was cool. Well, that was very different. And the opposite of cool, which is technically warm.

So it was kind of like a creepy clown that’s been baked in the oven at 125 degrees for about 3 minutes. Yes. That’s exactly what it was like.

I will not post that picture here, because by gosh and all, I don’t want it haunting me for the rest of my blogforsaken life.

So, when I realized I couldn’t “revive” that post as is, I thought, “I’ll take a few new pictures for it.” And then I thought, “WAIT! I’ll pick out my 9 favorite, easiest, most effective remedies and just make a picture post.” And so I did. Funny how you get things done when you decide you’re actually going to do them.

So here you go. My 9 favorite Pretty Simple Pimple Home Remedies. Perfect for looking at, remembering, and pinning to Pinterest if you need extra help with the memory jogging. (To wit, nothing was more horrifying than seeing people pin that terrible picture with the post mentioned above. Let’s do it right this time.) Also, for those of you who’ve been telling me to get a Pinterest button, I HAVE ONE. It’s right there, kinda tiny, at the top left hand side of the post. Check it.

9 Pretty Simple Pimple Home Remedies

I’m not going to spend a lot of time typing between these, but I do want to note – many of these are remedies for a single, terrifying pimple and shouldn’t be used over your whole face. They should also not be used to excess (more than once or twice a day), or you’ll end up with some dry patches. Everything in moderation, lovelies.

Also, let it be known that these are not ranked by my personal favorites. They’re ranked by the order in which I edited the pictures. It made sense to me.

Now that I’ve told you these aren’t ranked in order of my favorites, I will tell you that #1 is my favorite. But I also like to combine it with #7 (lavender or tea tree essential oil). Without fail, making a tiny clay mask with a bit of water and a drop of one of those essential oils treats my beastly pimple overnight. And if it’s not gone overnight, it’s gone within two or three days.

Kinda magic.

Also? Redmond clay is my new favorite clay. Just in case you’re not sure what kind to buy. Any bentonite or cosmetic clay would work just fine and dandy, though.

Swab apple cider vinegar over a big blemish and watch it disappear

While I don’t think you should go using apple cider vinegar undiluted over your entire face, swabbing a bit of it on a raging zit is a different story. Again, don’t go crazy and continuously treat any part of your skin with undiluted ACV. Just once or twice a day on a single blemish is plenty.

Don’t rinse it off, unless you really feel like you need to.

Dab lemon juice on a pimple for instant shrinking and lightening

This one comes as no surprise, right?

Fresh lemon juice is best, but if you have to use bottled, that’ll do. Just please remember that lemon juice makes your skin photosensitive (meaning, the sun could do some damage), so don’t go out into the daylight with lemon juice all over your face.

This is a great treatment to do at night. Because there’s no sun. At night. As far as I know.

Mustard is high in natural salicylic acid which is great for a single simple pimple treatment

Now here’s a brand spankin’ new idea. Mustard on a pimple.

See, mustard contains natural salicylic acid, which I’m sure you’ve heard does wonders for pimples and acne. But mustard also has plenty of vitamin C, omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, and zinc, all of which are great for your skin.

For an extra treat, instead of using bottled mustard, add about 1/8 of a tsp mustard powder to 1 tsp unfiltered honey and stir well. Use this as a tiny little pimple mask. Wash it off after about 15 minutes.

Green tea ice cubes are a great simple pimple zapper

Ah. Another one of my all-time favorites. You can also use these ice cubes as a cooling, antiinflammatory treatment for days when you have puffy eyes. Sooooo soothing.

I like to freeze the green tea leaves in with the ice cubes, but you don’t have to do that if you prefer not to. It does make for messier thawing.

Also, did you know that hot water freezes faster than cold water? True story. So don’t be afraid to pop your strong green tea into the freezer (in ice cube trays) while it’s still steamy. And keep a few of these ice cubes around at all times – you never know when one might come in handy!

Tomato juice defeats a large pimple in no time

Tomatoes. They’re astringent and superbly high in antioxidants. There are even stories dotting the internet of how tomato facial masks have helped heal acne scars (I don’t know anything about this first hand, though, so grain of salt).

If you have an unsightly eruption and an extra tomato handy, cut it open and rub some of the juice on the offensive area once or twice a day. (Again, a reminder, while it may be okay to use straight tomato juice all OVER your face once a week or so, excessive use could cause some icky dryness, so stick to just treating your single pimples with this idea. Otherwise, dilute, dilute, dilute. And use sparingly.)

Make your unsightly pimple disappear with a dab of lavender essential oil

Generally, I don’t think you should use undiluted essential oils on your skin. But common thought is that both lavender and tea tree essential oils are okay to use “neat,” if they are used rarely (otherwise, you could end up with an itchy reaction) and only to address a specific problem.

Translated: Don’t go rubbing essential oils, without diluting them, all over your skin. But a drop of lavender or tea tree on an uncomfortably large pimple might be all the pimple remedy you’ll need.

For the record, I do use straight lavender or tea tree on blemishes every so often, and they do work extremely well. (Caveat, of course, is that not everything works for everyone the same way …)

Make tiny masks with egg whites to treat your moon size pimples

I have to be honest here, this one is not my favorite. Mainly because you don’t want to waste an entire egg just to put a dab or three of the egg white on your face.

So, here’s my official recommendation: If you find yourself making eggs and you happen to have a few pimples, swipe your fingertip inside the egg shell to pick up some of the gooey white (after you’ve poured out your egg for what you’re cooking) and dab that on the affected areas.

You can leave this on for as long as you’d like. Boost the treatment by dabbing on lemon juice first, letting that dry, and then covering it with the egg white.

Fresh garlic as a pimple treatment forget the stink

Now, now. Don’t turn your nose up at this idea.

Just because garlic’s stinky doesn’t mean it’s not fantastalastically packed with antimicrobial and healing properties.

Smush a little bit of garlic juice on your pimple and leave it on as long as you’d like. Just stay over there while you do it. No need to come any closer … really …

Do You Have a Favorite Simple Pimple Home Remedy?

Is there something I missed? Something you’ve tried and loved?

Share it here!

And, again, I’m really so very sorry for that creepy disembodied lady head. Hopefully, we’ve set things right here …

(The farther away I am from antique stores while holding a camera, the better.)

What I do is use toothpaste on the pimple and the mint basically burns off the pimple and kills bacteria. Another thing I use is lemon or anything citrusy because the juice will also kill bacteria and dry the pimple. One more thing I use is banana peel because its just like lemon juice, and it will dry your pimples. When you squeeze them out there’s those nasty marks and it looks really bad. The peel erases them because it dries the pimple off and cures whatever was left on your skin

Hi, I am only 14 years old. I have many pimples and also pimple scars because I kept on squeezing them but it only made it worse. I have so many pimples that my classmates teases me and also my relatives saying “Oh you have so many pimples now.” That’s why sometimes I’m so insecure with my face. I don’t have that much of confidence. I’m using that ice cubes and toothpaste things and hey, it worked. But my only problem here is the pimple scars. They made it like I have still pimples on my face even though the actual Pimples I have on my face are few. Please help me get some remedies on how to treat pimple scars.

      March 15, 2015 at 7:13 PM

Use a half water half apple cider vinegar toner. And spot treat your pimples with tea tree oil. You’ll also probably want to moisturize with grapeseed oil. Even if you’re breaking out your face needs adequate oil. Grapeseed is lower in oliec acid so it’s not as clogging as olive or avocado oil, it’s more drying. Also, drink more water than you’ve ever drank before :] Eat clean. Stop eating sugar and dairy. Don’t use commercial makeup or face cleaners either. Clean your face with castiel soap or lemon and honey. :]

hi , is it okey to put lemon on the pimples , will it not make any scar or anything ? thank you .

    • Chloe

      December 24, 2014 at 12:27 AM

No, lemon juice will not make it scar or anything. It is super great as an antibacterial and will dry out the excess oil in your skin, just remember to use a gentle, natural, non comodogenic moisturiser after. I have read in some places that leaving the lemon juice on overnight is great for getting rid of pimples but I have also read in other blogs not to leave straight lemon juice on your face for too long because of the acid, so I use it in a lemon and honey face mask and leave that on for 20 mins, or as an exfoliater with a bit of cinnamon and honey, and leave it on for the same amount of time. You can play around with how much lemon juice you use in proportion to the honey depending on how bad your pimples are and how quickly you need to get rid of them, but honey also has antibacterial properties so it will also help. Hope this is useful, 🙂

I feel your pain , I am so sorry , but what I recommend for acne is 1) wash your face with honey in the a.m. ( wet hands &face with warm water, massage , leave on as long as possible, rinse 2) pm wash your face with a oil mixture, ( don’t freak out ) example; olive oil and castor ( 1part castor and 3part EVOO) mix directly in your hand or in a bottle) only use about 1/2teaspoon , massage onto face ( oil cleanses oil) there are other oil mixtures, like coconut , Jojoba, there is plenty of info online about oil cleansing, and most of all eat healthy !! no soda, ( try keifer soda instead) it’s relish and healthy. and vitamin B supplement ….I’ll be praying for you…

The best and proven method to get rid of a pimple is to apply sandalwood paste on the affected area as often as possible. It soothes the skin and helps in reducing the pimple. 🙂 My grandmother’s advice….

turmuric and olive oil once a day. It makes you yellow for a little while, but save it for just before bedtime you don’t feel as rushed to scrub it off. You shouldn’t leave it on for more than fifteen minutes. It can help lighten acne scars and cleanse your pores to decrease blackheads. Make sure you aren’t allergic, though.

Lavender oil is a well documented skin irritant. Lemon juice and vinegar are far too acidic for use on the face and will absolutely damage your skin. This is awful advice from someone who knows nothing about skincare and proof that natural is not always best. Just because something is a chemical or manmade doesn’t mean it’s unsafe or harmful to use on your skin. The best acne treatments are salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide.

    Hey Crunchy Betty!
I have a dilemma, and I seriously need a dose of your crunchy wisdom because this issue has me feeling depressed. Well, I stumbled across your awesome blog around last month, and you truly inspired me to go natural with my skin care. Now, I have an oily and very acne prone T-zone with huge pores on my nose (very unfortunate , I know). For as long as I can remember, I’ve been using HARSH acne products on my skin. These products have truly helped my skin remain decent with not so many pimples. Well, as soon as I got rid of all those harsh products and began using honey to was my face, the OCM in the evening (with castor and jojoba oil), diluted apple cider vinegar as my toner, and a clay mask once or twice a week, my skin has broken out like CRAZY. I got this super strange population of small little rash-like pimples all over my T-zone, especially my forehead. I know you mentioned somewhere in your blog that it may take your skin a while to get used to the natural products, but how long is a while? It’s been over a month and my skin looks super bad 🙁 Did this happen to you when you changed your skin regimen? Do you know of something that can help? I really don’t want to go back to using my old products, but I’m scared that I may have to if these pimples don’t go away! I just want to know if you are familiar with this problem in any way because these pimples are really messing with my self-esteem. I’m up to the point that I don’t even want anyone looking at my face because I feel so super self conscious and ugly with this terrible break out 🙁

      Hi,

Did you receive a response on this? I am in the exact same predicament.
Used harsh chemicals for a long time. About a month ago I started
Using manuka honey to cleanse and as a mask. I also use acv as a toner
And jojoba oil and tea tree oil. I also do a clay mask once a week.
I have the small little red bumps now all over.
Will these go away soon? Or should I try something else?

      • Emely

        March 9, 2014 at 7:03 AM

Omg I started a month ago as well ! I also use jojoba oil with tee tree oil and acv as a toner. And do masks with fullers earth clay or calcium benonite clay.
She still hasnt responded, these little pimples are stressing me out ! Im on the verge of going back to my old regimen 🙁 I dont even know if they will go away soon . I dont think that “soon” is the word, maybe in the long run they will. Hopefully:/

I hope so too!!!! I heard up to two months before
It clears up. Our skin is purging. I just read about
Using mustard too, so I may add some mustard
Powder to my honey mask too and see if that speeds
Up the process. Good luck !!! Let me know when you start
          Seeing it clear up 🙂

Mix some nutmeg, cinnamon, salt, milk and apple cider vinegar in a bowl. Mix into a thin paste. Take a cotton ball and dab some on the affected area or your entire face. Let it dry. For an extra boost: take the cotton ball and dab it into the paste to drain some of the liquid out of it making it into a thick glob of spices and miracle work. Take some of the glob and mask it flat onto a pimple concealing it in a spicy mask. You should feel a tingly, hot sensation. That means it is working. Leave it on for about 10-20 minutes. Wash this off with warm water and NO SOAP! Splash some cold water on you face to close up your pores and go on with any other treatment you use.

      How to:

Squeeze 1 spoonful fresh Lemon juice and take the same amount of Honey in a clean bowl. Mix them well. You will get a thick liquid paste like pack now.
Apply it all over the face and neck after cleansing the face properly.
Use a cotton ball to apply this mixture all over the face.
Leave the mixture on the face for 15 to 20 minutes.
After 15 minutes, wash it off with cold water.

But boiling water into a bucket to about half or three quarters full.
You can add tea tree oil to the water.
Place head over the bucket (not in the water) and cover both with a towel.

What will happen is the steam will rise and open your pours which will make the bacteria
And gunk fall into the bucket. You only have to wait 5 mins then just discard the water and wash off excess

That sounds like it’s just a reaction to the waxing, either due to irritation or bacteria- I’ve gotten those myself. For those I find that just washing my face really well and using a nice scrub and then soothing toner before going to bed makes them go away almost immediately. I’d recommend the aspirin honey mask/scrub (you can find recipes online) and then a gentle toner if you have one (the green tea ice cubes work as a really nice toner I’ve found). If not, just moisturize and go to bed. The biggest thing to be careful not to get more bacteria on your face. You want it CLEAN. So that means drying with a clean towel, applying everything with clean hands and letting the toner/moisturizer soak in completely before putting your face on anything. Goes away within 48 hours I kid you not!

Thank for these! I am a new crunchybetty’s fan)
I have two favorite remedies for pimples : first is neem oil. It works perfect, but the smell is awfull,.
Another remedy is my Dad’s. He makes vodka&herbs infusion. He takes lots of birch tree flowers, camomile, bidens and hypericum (I found it is also called in English tuts an or st.John’s wort) put them into hot water and adds alcohol. The color of infusion is like not very strong black tea. I take a tiny piece of a cotton ball, wet it in the infusion and put it on the pimple and leave until it”s dry (cotton ball I mean).

Hello CrunchyBetty! I just want to say thank you for sharing your article about pimple remedies. There are home remedies for cystic acne and the reason we get it is that it has something to do with our diet and environment. Other remedies include baking soda, tea tree oil, aloe vera, potatoes, etc. I found the information from this article: http://www.ihomeremedy.net/how-to-get-rid-of-cystic-acne-fast/

My advice to people is to always read the labels and use it according to the directions. Also, you should only purchase that do not have harmful chemicals! As these chemicals can lead to more acne! I started getting acne when I was a Junior in High School. I tried all of the well-known product lines but my skin would become somewhat “immuned” to the product after a week a use. I finally tried the Citrus Clear products I found online. After about a month of using Citrus Clear, I was so happy. Citrus Clear cleared, healed, and prevented acne.

Sorry bout all the questions, it would be really helpful if I had the answers 🙂

Hi Crunchy Betty, I, can personally swear by tea tree oil!!! I have suffered from acne for years….cystic/scarring. A big cyst would be painful inflamed for months before it was totally healed. Tea tree oil for a couple of weeks applied twice a day straight makes a huge difference, and adding some turmeric capsules internally takes inflammation down fast. And the best thing, the cysts simple resorb and heal with no scarring!!!! All in a couple of weeks. Natural remedies are really awesome, and I love the masks you suggest.

I try to get rid of my pimples with honey ant cinnamon masks. 🙂 I mix two spoons of honey with a pinch of cinnamon and then smear it on my face and leave it for 20 minutes. I do it twice a week, of course, you can do this procedure more often, it depends, how much time do you have and how often you remember this ! 😀

Very helpful!!! A comment on the apple cider vinegar–I decided to try swabbing a drop on the most broken-out areas of my skin (I was desperate, so I used it undiluted!). After about a week (once or twice a day application), things started clearing up, and now not only have I not had any new pimples, but old acne scars have faded. I did some research and ACV actually can help clear up scars… something about the ingredients and PH is good for the skin. I’m just happy it works! I haven’t found it to be very drying, but maybe if you have dry skin dilute it? Like I said, I was desperate, so I tried it by itself, but most recommendations I’ve seen say to dilute it by at least half with water.

    • Raja

      July 11, 2013 at 1:58 PM

Can you please tell me how to do it, I’m confused.

      • Hannah

        July 11, 2013 at 2:03 PM

I just dipped a Q-tip in the ACV and swabbed it on any problem areas. If you’re worried about your skin being sensitive to the ACV, then dilute it.

never apply garlic on your face,as it can cause contact dermatatis which would take over 6 months in healing and i am also suffering from contact dermatatis by applying garlic.

      • Kimmyyy

        October 8, 2013 at 4:41 PM

I have to agree that you should either never apply plain garlic to skin or be VERY CAREFUL.
My mother applied straight mushed up garlic(fresh, which she bought at a farmers market) to an area of skin and she developed SEVERE burns(and I mean severe). She isn’t allergic to garlic in any way, but the doctors claimed it was due to the application of straight garlic.
Please be super careful when doing this! 🙁

Someone told me to put toothpaste on your pimples and leave it overnight. I put toothpaste on a band-aid ( a little cirlce band-aid) and put on the pimple on my nose which is where I most often get pimples. I left it on while I was sleeping and woke up and the band-aid had fell off already but there is a big red circle on my nose from where the band-aid was. I dont know if it was the toothpaste that did it or the band-aid, but I AM NOT ever doing it again. I asked my cousin if it looked bad and she said “Yeah. I’m not gonna lie, it looks really bad.” I put a little liquid base on it which I know can’t be a good idea, but I had to go to the store and I didn’t wanna look all red. Now, I’m trying to look up remedies because I have church tomorrow and I don’t wanna have these big red pimples on my face but im also scared I’m gonna try a remedie and it will irritate it even more!

I have been trying different pimple remedies for the past couple of days. I’ve been washing my face with honey, which after 3 days started making my skin so soft. At first, it was too oily so I knew I had to cleanse my face better. I also make a paste of nutmeg and half and half to scrub my blackheads. While it didn’t do much to get rid of my blackheads, the half and half felt amazing on my skin after washing it, and moisturized it well. Now I’ve been using a tomato all over my face as an amazing astringent, then I wash it off. That has made the biggest difference on my skin. It’s tight, glowing and soft. Also been putting AVC on my zits, and it dries them up and makes a huge difference within a day, but keeps improving daily. I’m very pleased! My advice is to not give up, try something a few days first, and adjust to your body. Not everything will work for everyone but you can find the balance for you!

hey there! i actually get raw local honey from a town nearby. i live in a small, agricultural town so i get to be a little spoiled when it comes to things like this! i’m not sure if it’s organic or not, though. but i do know that it’s raw.

i also use organic local tomatoes and organic half and half but that’s not always available so i use the local stuff and it has been showing the same results. i found some great ACV at walmart that is by heinz but it’s labeled as “unfiltered, all-natural” so i was pleasantly surprised to see that! hope this helps! 🙂 xo

About my recommendation of using a few drops of NAIL POLISH REMOVER on a pimple that will dry it, stop its growth without burning the skin or irritation, scaring, etc., in a single application or for a couple of days, someone said at it should not be tried as it is not a natural remedy as the others. Well, I just say that this is a home remedy as this blog is all about, like toothpaste that someone else recommends, and a lot of people do, its not a natural remedy but a home remedy. I just tell you that all my family and friends use my home remedy because it works just like in the old days people used rose water.

I just wanted to hop on here again and tell you guys about the wonderful results I am having from mustard! I mix up a powdered mustard with a little bit of water or honey (or vitamin e oil if your skin is feeling sensitive), spread it on all over my face like a mask, and rinse when it starts feeling a little too warm for me. After years of monthly chemical peels as a teenager (which I can’t afford on my own insurance), I can attest that the effect is comparable. My skin is wonderfully smooth for days! It is even fading my old scars.

Once a month would probably do it, but I’ve been doing it more like once a week. Just be careful. It will burn if you leave it for too long (much like a chemical peel). If your skin is sensitive, I would try it on a small area first. Honestly, though, this is working miracles for me!

Great post. I’ll have to try some of these, thank you! One tip I use is if you have a huge (and often painful, at least in my case) zit, one thing you can do to reduce the swelling is put a tea bag to it for a few seconds (avoid spiced teas, but english breakfast, earl grey, chamomile, even peppermint work fine). I just make my tea before bed, slightly ring out the tea bag over the sink so that it isn’t so dripping, and hold it up to my pimple for about 30 seconds before discarding the bag. It’s amazing how much the swelling, redness and most importantly, pain from the zit are reduced. Then treat however you prefer (I’m looking forward to the lemon juice myself).

Just a standard kitchen egg tip: When egg white and yokes are separated completely egg whites won’t go bad. You can keep a jar with a single egg white in the fridge for a LONG time for facial use with no consequences.

As a teenager I ended my acne all at once by using an ingredient that came to me after some very deep thinking…..I believe it to be a very well kept secret. I used NOTHING, and it worked. That is to say, I used water on a white wash cloth – and nothing else. I washed my face gently with warm water and it began to get better and better – less oily and then got clear and stayed that way. Hot water will dry the skin but is good for big blemishes. If I had known anything back then I would have used filtered water. I was just a kid, so I used tap water. steam the face by putting a towel over your head and running hot water in the sink with your face down towards the water. Just wash the face the way God intended – works wonders.

I used water as well, when I was in high school. filtered water to be exact, every day before bed, and it ended my acne as well, or most of it (I still have black heads and some scars) But it did a HUGE improvement on my skin.

I crush up an asprin pill, which is high in salicylic acid and is a great anti-inflammatory and add a few drops of lemon juice/diluted tea tree oil (for anti-bacterial effect) to make it into a rough paste. Leave it on the pimple until it’s dry, but make sure to moisturize afterwards. Works like magic. Also, using Marula oil as a daily moisturizer and using the oil instead of traditional facial cleansers has gotten rid of my oily skin and my acne problem. Using a dry oil like Marula, Baobab, or Argan is much better than using soaps or astringents for balancing the oil content in your skin. The oil pushes out dirt and sebum build up by dissolving it and bonding to the skin cells to push dead matter and grit out, where water based formulas generally aim to exfoliate or flush the dirt out. It seems weird at first to put oil on oily skin, but your skin basically goes “oh hey, there’s enough healthy oil here, guess I don’t need to make more” and voila! clear skin! 🙂

You can put the egg yolk on your hair for extreme softness and manageability. Apply egg yolk for 5-10mins or so ( I have left it on up to 30mins before (because I got distracted) only side effect of the long time is my hair slightly smelled even after shampooing and conditioner.) Once 5-10minish has passed shampoo and conditioner. I know I know why conditioner? I haven’t tried it without conditioner. The results of extreme softness and manageability are being compared to the same regimen I normally do minus the egg yolk.

Similar to bentonite clay, multani mitti, which is Indian Fuller’s Earth clay powder, is also very effective, and can be used daily. For best results, and this is from personal experience, mix one spoon of clay and add equal measurements of lemon juice and rosewater. Mix it into a thin paste and apply it. Wash it off after it dries.

Neem is JAM-PACKED with goodies, too! Get a hold of some neem powder (or fresh neem leaves) and mix it into a paste with lemon juice.

Chandan, or sandalwood, is great for clearing blemishes, resulting in fairer, healthier and beautiful skin. Just add some rosewater to make a paste.

I also like using a pinch of turmeric powder in a tablespoon of green gram. Add some honey or olive oil to it if you like, and then mix it all together with some milk. This is not only great for terminating those pimples, but it brightens your complexion beautifully!

      • kbrownnc

        October 14, 2012 at 7:10 PM

Crush non-coated aspirin (sometimes I use a mortar & pestle, but last time I used my kitchen ninja really fine and then poured it into my container through a small mesh strainer to get the coating and any larger pieces out.) and mix with a VERY SMALL amount of water. Cover face with mixture and leave on…I usually do 15-30 min. (Depending on how long my attention is diverted) Wet hands & rub it lightly with fingertips in a circular motion. Splash face with water to rinse. Your face will be as soft as a baby’s boo hiney!

OR you can make a paste and just put it on the blemish instead of doing your whole face.

If you have a really bad pimple (inflamed, red, painful) put some of your normal spot treatment/moisturizer/essential oil/whatever you use on and then cover with a band-aid. By the next morning it will be smaller, better, and never over dried and it makes it so much easier if you want/need to cover it with make-up

Nothing worked for me as well as orange peel powder did. I just use it as a scrub on my face very morning. Clears pimples in days. So all I had was spicy mustard. And, I’m desperate to find something since I don’t have most the items I’d like to. I figured it had cayeanne pepper or something like that but actually it was: vinegar, mustard seed and tumeric! So, as I’ve read good about tumeric on this site (other wise I’d honestly assume it’s something not for the face) I decided to use it. Worked great!! Just thought I’d share. I’d never thought mustard would be okay. Thanks for this great site!!!! It’s helped me sooo much…

anyone have pregnancy-specific methods for battling nasty skin? everything that I used on my skin before getting pregnant seems to have completely stopped working. my face is puffy and bloated, it’s red and splotchy, it’s oily in some place but dry and itchy in others, it’s massive pimples everywhere that scar SO easily, it’s everything you can imagine. I drink TONS of water, as well as herbal teas, eat fruits and veggies, avoid processed foods, only wear mineral makeup and that only to work, I just bought some tamanu oil and have been trying that recently, I do bentonite clay and tea tree oil masks every once in awhile- I am out of ideas! help! do I just have to resign myself to 28 more weeks of this?

    • Helen

      September 3, 2012 at 8:48 AM

Try oatmeal to help the splotchiness and redness. I have cystic acne on my cheeks, with lots of scarring, and using oatmeal as a mask really helped with the redness. Just take oats (any kind), mix them in water to make a paste, and leave on your face for a few minutes. Hope this helps!

I made an activated charcoal, honey, sea salt and tea tree mix recently for a terrible one just this week. It knocked it out. Maybe 6 capsules, 2 tsp honey, a dash of salt and 10 drops of teatree oil. Since it doesn’t dry I kept it out uncovered. I left it on about half an hour. Rinsing is messy but my skin is flat again.

I love french green clay for pimples! It works the very best for me. I usually just use it as a spot treatment, but sometimes do a whole face mask with it. I just buy the powdered stuff (can get at iherb, mountain rose herbs, etc.) and mix it with a bit of water on my finger or in the lid when I need it. That or a bentonite clay pack might work wonders for sebacious cysts on the leg.

Great tips! And so timely! My boyfriend has had a major breakout going on for a month or so now. One would think he just turned 13, not 30. Some really big pimples on his forehead, and also just above the temples there are shitloads of blackheads, like almost every pore is black. We/I have no idea what’s causing it, but it’s really annoying. We’ve made a couple of different face masks and scrubs, but nothing has worked miracles so far. Tried spot treatments, one with green clay and one with active charcoal, they helped a bit. Definitely trying some of these as well! I’ve also heard really good things about pine infusion and african black soap, I think those are going to be the next experiments! Quite possibly mustard and garlic too..

I always use a small amount of turmeric mixed with a little lemon juice or yogurt all over my face. Its an ancient ayurveda recipe,Works like magic all the time. The best part is your skin starts to look flawless after multiple uses.
For sunburn use the same mixture mixed with a little bentonite clay, but i have to warn you if you have dry skin, this tends to dry out your skin over time, so mix some EVoo or coconut oil to prevent that.
