CHALLENGE TIME!
Today starts a new day for you. For us all.
Starting today, we’re going to wash our faces with honey – at least once a day. Honey. And water.
Don’t forget the first rule of the Crunchy Betty Honey Challenge: Talk about the Crunchy Betty Honey Challenge. You can recruit people as often as you’d like – even in the middle – and don’t forget all the goodies you can grab at this page for free to help you with that (bloggers, take note). That’s where you get that kitschy button over there at the top ——>
The first part of the challenge consists of washing only a face that’s free of makeup. So for the first week, you’ll either want to wash with honey only in the morning, or twice a day if you don’t wear makeup during the day. Next Monday, I’ll show you a variation you can use to get rid of makeup (or just keep doing your oil cleansing, too … that’s fine!)
I’ll answer some questions after the introduction on how to do it (and you’ll also find a video I sang on, shot, and produced to help you learn how to do it). It’s not hard. In fact, it’s probably the easiest face washing you’ve ever done.
Why You Want to Wash Your Face With Honey
- It is antibacterial and antimicrobial. It will get off any lingering nastiness that’s thinking about setting up camp on your face and creating pimples.
- It is slightly drying which means it helps soak up any pimples or oiliness.
- It is also incredibly moisturizing. Seems like a double standard, doesn’t it? But it’s true. Honey sinks into your skin and moisturizes like you wouldn’t believe. (Remember Cleopatra and her honey baths to look young?)
- It imparts all kinds of beneficial enzymes that work at scrubbing your face for you, as well as perform a little anti-aging action.
- It’s great for acne, aging skin, normal skin, dry skin … honey loves EVERY SKIN TYPE.
- It is healing and helps repair acneic sores and scars.
- It’s 100%, absolutely, positively natural, great for your skin, and such a SIMPLE addition to your routine!
How to Wash Your Face With Honey
We’re going to get into all the different types of honey there are to choose from on Wednesday, but for now just know that if your honey says “raw” and “pure” on it, it’s fine.
How to Wash Your Face With Honey
First, remember that these directions are for washing a face that doesn’t have makeup on it. Honey alone doesn’t take off all the goopy gunk, so next Monday I’ll show you the three little (natural) additions you can make to get all the makeup off – and still enjoy the benefits of a honey wash.
For now, if you wear makeup, just continue to take it off the way you normally do, and incorporate the honey wash into your morning, pre-makeup routine.
Here are your wash instructions:
- Tie your hair back or get it out of your face. (Honey makes hair really sticky.)
- Pour 1/2-ish teaspoon of honey into the palm of your hands and rub your hands together for 2-3 seconds, just to warm up the honey.
- Place the honey on your face and massage it in for a minute or two – all around, don’t forget an inch of face.
- Optional – leave the honey sitting there on your face for 5 or 10 minutes, just so your skin can drink the goodness in.
- Rinse a few times with water. You’ll be surprised at how quickly and easily it rinses off!
- Bask in the beauty that is your face now.
That’s it!
If you want visual directions, here’s a silly little video I made (I was a bit loopy). Yes, that’s me singing, acting silly, and annoying my cat.
And, yes, that really is all there is to it.
All total, if you don’t leave it on as a mask for a while, it takes all of 2-3 minutes.
So what’s the challenge in that?
Sign Up and Wash Your Face With Honey EVERY DAY for Two Weeks
The challenge is in doing it every day, without fail, for two weeks.
The challenge is sticking with it until you see fantastic results.

I LOVE washing my face with honey. I have dry skin with occasional dry, red patches. My face looks & feels AWESOME! This is better than the $90 medicated cream that my doctor prescribed. Plus no negative side effects.

Hi! I have suffered from acne and black heads as well as large pores on my chin and T zone for years. I’m considering trying honey. Would you suggest using an exfoliant a few times a week as well ( some suggest adding brown sugar to honey and using it as an exfoliation)? Right now I’m using a gentler, more natural cleanser which doesn’t dry out my sensitive skin, yet at the same time, it doesn’t clean deep enough to take care of my blackheads.
Diane
-I, Diane, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses.I already use the COM and love it, so I’m super excited to try this. We keep bees and have lots of raw honey already, so this is right up my alley!
Joan
My son, 27, has acne and uses commercial products/medication. He also has a beard and moustache. With honey being sticky in hair, how does the honey wash work with a beard/moustache?
I am taking the 2 week honey challenge, started yesterday (6/22/15). If it works for me, I want to be able to recommend it to him, and to my new daughter-in-love, who is gifting me with my first grandchild in December!
Thanks,
Joan

I started the honey challenge tonight, and will give the honey a 2-weeks trial. I have great expectations. 🙂

Thank you for the wonderful post! Quick question, does honey remove sunscreen? Like something as heavy as badger’s for example?

I started using raw honey to wash my face at the beginning of the year. I was breaking out like crazy over the holidays, worse than ever before. I started with the two-week honey challenge and saw positive effects almost immediately, my painful zits became less inflamed and stopped hurting as much, and any pimples that did pop out went away quickly. I’ve cut down to using the honey once a day in the morning, followed by jojoba oil for moisturizer. Since January my breakouts have decreased significantly, to the point that I get maybe one or two zits a month, and only when I’m PMSing. The ones I do get don’t hurt like they used to (no more of those awful under-the-skin suckers that feel like a mountain of hurt on your face). I might go back to using honey twice a day when the heat returns (I’m in New England), but thus far I am a true raw-honey-as-facewash convert and tell everyone how much I love it!
mary
What about organic. Bottle doesn’t say raw.
mary
Sorry I’m late to this thread. What about organic Honey. The bottle doesn’t say “raw”.

Do you have any video of that? I’d love to find out some additional information.

So I can add this to my oil cleansing, no problem. Right?
I have been doing the oil cleanser for two weeks but I am still having breakout problems, I will add this in after my oil cleansing and see if it helps at all.

Love the honey! Gotta be the real stuff, it’s thick and kinda white in colour not the runny yellow stuff even though they say pure, it’s not and made me break out. Found some at the farmers market and it works great!, so soft. I use it in the morning to cleanse.

TESTIMONIAL TIME!!
I’ve always had sensitive, dry skin, and most things over the counter irritate it. After my first usage of honey, I could already see and feel a difference. A week and a half after using honey on my face EVERY DAY, I received my first compliment (from a complete stranger). It’s only been about 4 weeks, my face has never looked better, and strangers continue to compliment my skin. (I get a kick out of the looks I get when I tell them I use raw honey…) AND I’ve converted 5 people to honey usage! This stuff really works!!!!
I live in Texas and what’s available in my area is Kelley’s raw, unfiltered honey. Make sure you get raw, unfiltered honey… “Grade A” honey doesn’t mean raw!
In my experience, it’s also important to do it every day for the best results. (Previously, I was only using honey once or twice a week.) Thank you, Crunchy Betty!!

If your skin is too oily, you can add a drop or two of lemon juice.

I’m one week in and my skin has become dehydrated and itchy. fyi i’m usually pretty oily. i think i might be using the wrong kind of honey. weird thing is ever since i started washing face with honey it has become more sensitive to other face wash. the other night i tried washing with drugstore creamy cleanser (hada labo, i don’t know if it’s a known brand in us/europe but it’s pretty big here in asia) which usually calms any irritation…and the itch and dehydration became worse. any suggestions? i don’t want to give up because seeing how i now react to my previous cleanser i can’t go back but i’m not sure i should continue with this batch of honey… (it is however super yummy on toast so i can always relocate it to my kitchen)
Alana
Maybe add a drop or two of milk if your skin is dry and make sure you wash the honey off completely. If you don’t, it will get itchy.

I am late in the game but still trying, my skin is so irritated due to my life style that i need to calm it down. I am in the sun 5-12 hours a day. I work with horses so dirt and crud cakes my face and store bought stuff isnt working, time for an intervention on my skin.

I started to do daily honey masks almost a week ago to try to get rid of my chin acne (which I assume is caused by hormones)I started researching and people swear by it so I convinced myself to do it. I’m putting raw honey on my face for almost 40 min to an hour in the morning, then the usual toner-moisturizer steps right after; also at night I’m rubbing a lemon half all over my face, waiting for it to dry and then again with the honey; I leave it for the same amount of time and then rinse, tone and moisturize. So far I have to say this DOES work, but it gets worse before it gets better. I started breaking out more in my chin area after a couple of days but I noticed how I got rid of blackheads and my skin’s overall texture improved so much. I can see how it’s starting to clear up and I’m excited to keep this up. Hope it works for all of you, it’s definitely worth the try

I use oats water with honey. I cleanse my makeup with sesame oil (organic cold press) which helps suck out impurities. At times, I apply honey over it and mix in oats water. However, oil or honey cleansing in the long run can be very drying on surface skin, so I alternate using oats water only (soak some oatmeal in a little water on palm and use it like a cleansing milk). I even tried coconut milk, which is very nourishing. Still, it will be drying on surface skin due to coconut oil in it. But I have positive effects on removing pigmentations and pimples using coconut milk.

I wash with raw honey every morning. I like to add cinnamon, nutmeg and clove to mine. I leave it on for 15 minutes and rinse with cold water. If you can stick with it you will be amazed. I suffer from dry skin and acne. It prevents new break outs and fades acne scars.

Hi there, I can across this today and I’m definitely going for it! I just have one question: What should I apply to my face after washing with honey? I’m planning to make it a “before bed” routine – do I just wash and dry it off and off I go or what should I apply after washing?
Looking forward to your reply.
Laurence Layne
Hi, folks,
I just found this wonderful blog and wanted to comment on the problems everyone is having with using honey to wash their face…the reason your skin breaks out is because the skin is trying to get rid of the toxins that have built up in the pores of your skin.
Most likely you don’t have the patience to see it through, but give it time to work before going off and trying something else. At least 5 days between healing remedies for the skin. More often just irritates your skin and clogs the pores, which, by the way, causes more breakouts.
Any type of local honey is best to use since it contains all the pollen in the area. It works on your immune system to decrease sensitivity to allergens in your area. Using honey from another country does not do your immune system any good since you may not be subject to the type of pollen in another country.
Local, raw honey is the best…if you can find wildflower in your area, use that one.
Also, try starting out with one oil, then adding more if you need it, but give the single oil at least 5 days before you add another oil to your mixture. That way you’ll know which oil affects your skin since every person skin composition is different.
The skin is the largest detox part of your body. When the digestive system can’t flush toxins out, it comes out through the skin. Hence, pimples, blackheads and acne.
Change to fruits and vegetable, fresh, of course, and see if some of your skin problems don’t clear up, as well as the honey treatment. Hope this helps…

I believe….I believe!! lol. Ok, I decided to try this about three weeks ago. I bought some Manuka Honey and started to wash my face twice a day with it. HOLY Amazeballs!! My face was always red and I had two gross red patches on my chin that plagued me. Happy to report i’m officially awed! My face is back to it’s normal color..no more redness and those horrible patches that my dermatologist gave me steroids for are flipping gone! Can’t wait to show him. So happy..Thanks for this info. -xo

I have been using honey to cleanse and coconut oil to moisturize for a month now. No new breakouts and super soft skin. In the past, exfoliation with baking soda every day was the only thing that worked to prevent my cystic acne. Obviously, that’s much too abrasive and though it gave me clear beautiful skin, it also caused an overproduction of oil that was hard to control. Honey has been amazing! I just exfoliate with a wet cloth twice a week. And to reduce the redness from my previous breakouts, I left a mix of honey and lemon juice on my face for ten mins. Really helped! And it’s so inexpensive!

I’m definitely trying this. I keep getting acne. In the same places. Year in, year out.
Better yet, I have a beehive. In the spring when I harvest the honey, I’m using it for this. And I’m going to use my neighbor’s honey until then, just because it’s local and such.
The best part: This stuff will actually agree with my skin. It won’t make it really red, really sore, and sting like thousands of mosquitoes have been after me like normal, mainstream lotion and facewashes do.
I can’t wait to see how this works!

I need help!! I have been using the oil cleansing method for a couple of months and have finally found the right oils and quantities for my dry and extremley sensitive skin. Avocado oil and vit e, but no castor oil as no matter how little i used, i still found it too drying. But im still finding my face is dry and irritated in places and it feels like its the ‘steaming’ process?? Id like to carry on using this method but maybe just every other day…so…what can i wash with in between? Can i use the mix to just remove my eye and face makeup and stop there or do i still need to cleanse my face?? Id like to try honey but i have hayfever, although i eat honey with no reactions…sorry for the 20 questions! Im worried il revert back to shop bought cleanser if i dont find an alternative!! Advice muchly appreciated 🙂 x

Day 11
Honey challenge = FAIL for my skin (so far)
I have lived with oily/ acneic skin for almost 20 years. Tried every cleanser/ topical antibiotic (never tried accutane). I’ve gradually changed all our household products to crunchy/ healthy alternatives.
Except for my facewash… and medicated cleansing pads.
I tried the honey challenge + OCM 1-2 per week (sunflower and castor oils… I researched and avoided olive oil). Used some ACV + water as well. My skin is now a horrible, bumpy mess… it looks and feels… congested? It’s as if my skin can’t eliminate what needs to come out.
I really wanted this to work, but my skin is the worst it’s been in 3 years (when I was pregnant and enduring weird hormonal skin issues… and no, I’m not pregnant). I’m hoping I can find a natural way to clear this up… the honey has also made for severely dry hands.
Kelly
Should you rinse your face with water before you put the honey on?
Josyye
Started the honey challenge this morning!! Also doing the OCM at night.. Is it too much for my skin?? We’ll see!!w
Desiree
Hello! I was so looking forward to starting the honey challenge and I did so this morning. Unfortunately, I had an allergic reaction as I ::smacks forehead:: forgot I am allergic to pollen. Within one minute my face turned red and got hot all over. The heat lasted about two minutes but the redness stayed. In all honesty, I was under the impression that honey was its own entity and that pollen would not be present in it, but alas it is. Is it possible that you may have another all natural cleansing remedy for acne prone skin?

Honey wash callemge is underway. My face has never felt so good. Even my husband has asked what I am using now…cuz he’s never seen my skin so clear. The honey seems to even out skin tone as well!!!
I made up the tamu/jojoba oil/lavender drop moisturizer cuz my face dried a bit from the amazing honey;)
I was wondering about treatment for Milia? I have heard it can only be removed by squeezing and a dermatologist/esthetician?
Any advice?
Pearle
Did it this morning for the first time! I also started OCMing at night last night. Didn’t really know what I was doing yesterday and bought and mixed random oils that sounded good. It didn’t seem to work well for me. Then I did some research and realized the oils I used were more for oily acne skin. So I went out and bought more oils for my skin type. Just used them now. We’ll see how it works. I gave the other bottle of oils I mixed to my SIL, she has acne and she said she likes it.
Kimmyyy
So, I posted on September 17th about how I’d been doing the honey face wash twice daily and I was having beautiful results. Well, a couple of weeks ago my face started reverting back to its old ways. I now have acne and a slightly oily face, just like I did before. Nothing had changed in my routine and I was still washing with just honey morning and night. Some nights I would use a little brown sugar in my honey and make a scrub, but that’s about it. I was doing that from the very beginning.
I’m contemplating quitting and going back to some other type of face wash. If I’m just going to keep breaking out, I don’t see a point in continuing to use honey… I’m very bummed out. 🙁
Stephanie
I had some of these same results early on, I’ve been washing with honey for two months now and my face got veryyy oily. I started at nighttime and whenever my face felt a little dry or oily to put on an ACV toner. Just 1 part Apple Cider Vinegar “Mother” kind and 2 parts distilled water. It should feel smooth going on with a facial pad or cotton ball. I think for us with really oily skin the honey balances out for a while but you come in contact with so many new elements each day that it is hard to maintain clear skin with just the use of honey alone. The ACV balances your PH and doesn’t smell…I promise!
Let me know if that helps. Sometimes feels dry so at night I’ll also put a drop of jojoba oil on my face before bedtime.
Oh and when I have the time, which is almost never I put jojoba oil on first, hot wash cloth over my face til cold, rinse off then wash with honey.
Alternate…find what works for you. DON’T GIVE UP! Honey has taken over my bathroom!!

Bethany Ulderich
I’m going to start this tomorrow morning! I can’t stand the taste of honey and have never known what to do with all the fresh honey my husbands grandmother is always giving me!
Stephanie
I have been washing my face with honey (which my boyfriend even let me try on him once, it just smells so yummy!) for about a month now. I can say that I have really good results, but keep in mind I eat a well balanced diet and I avoid greasy food, and I don’t touch my face often. The only reason I break out is from my EXTREMELY oily bangs! ERRR >:( The honey does a wonderful job of making my CTM (clean, tone, moisturize) regime easier.
For people with oily skin and who have a skin type like mine (freckles, fair skin, oily) This is what I have found works for me. Given I’ve only been doing this process for about a week, but it’s left amazing results.
I wash my face with honey in the morning, and that’s it. I also don’t wear make-up.
At night, I wash my face with honey again and then I have a concoction of lavender oil (2-3 drops), Apple Cider Vinegar, and DISTILLED WATER (not tap). I put this in a bottle and shake before applying it to a cotton ball and rubbing my face. It balances the PH of your skin which I am a firm believer in eating things that balance my PH so why not for my skin too? I think go to sleep and on some morning *I will also apply jojoba oil if I know I’m going to be inside. When I’m outside I feel like the oil attracts the sun to burn my face, don’t know if this is true…just a hunch! Those days I put a moisturizer on with sunscreen. Pay attention to your weather, what you are doing, and your skin type. These will help you better adjust to a regimen that will keep your face healthy! And never, ever touch your face! LOL seriously.
PS- Thanks Crunchy Betty for the honey idea, I don’t know what I would have done without this secret face wash 😉
Dena Schafstall
Can’t wait to try the natural way….
Kimmyyy
So I saw this a few weeks ago and figured, what the hell, I’ll give it a shot. I have acne that likes to pop up randomly and harass me. I also have super oily, but easily dried out skin, if that makes any sense. I’ve always figured that the more I scrub it and put oil reducing masks and such on it, the better off I’ll be. Then I got some sense into me and realized I was making it worse.
Since I started this challenge about 3 weeks ago, I’ve been consistently washing my face with just honey at least once a day, usually twice. My acne has pretty much vanished and my skin feels wonderful. I’ve noticed that my skin is significantly less oily also. I used to be unable to miss a morning and night face washing because I would just look gross or breakout, but now I can actually skip it, if I’m not feeling up to it, and I wake up with next day with normal, beautiful skin. This really was a miracle treatment for me. I also love telling people about it, because they always look at me like I’m crazy. I’ve already recruited two girls at my workplace to start it!

I tried this today and it was incredibly sticky. Are you really supposed to use RAW honey because that’s what I used and its really thick and hard to spread around. Most of it seemed to stay on my hands!
Solara
Hi there, raw honey is the best kind of honey for overall health. I have raw honey as well, but as soon as i put it on my fingers and rub them together to warm it up, it becomes almost liquid-like, and i continue massaging it onto my face for 2mins. If u feel most of it is on your fingers, use an applicator stick i suppose 🙂

Sue
I already use it, and it’s fantastic. i was wondering, since honey is so good for your face, what about the rest of your body? what ingredients would you put with it to make a body wash, or would you put anything with it at all?
AmbieB
I was hesitant at first, as I was with the oil cleaning method. I am on week one with the honey. I thought maybe it was not working but now I know it was because I changed my oil mixture. I am excited to see more improvements with my cystic acne by following suggested natural alternatives. I am glad to be in the evolution of going back to natural substance.I,Amber, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses.

This is absolutely the best thing I have ever used. I wish I knew about this many years ago. I have been using the honey wash in the morning and the oil cleansing at night, just using olive oil at this time. It has made a tremendous difference in such a short amount of time. I was using medicated cream on my face for my breakouts during my menstrual cycle, which just helped to dry out my skin further. I have noticed that the pimples have minimized and I haven’t used the cream at all this week. The surface oil that was on my face a week ago, which I had to continually wipe a few times a day, is no longer an issue. I cannot believe that something can work in such a short amount of time. I have been using just a tiny bit of Tamanu oil as moisturizer this week but I will be getting other oils this weekend to make the facial oil moisturizer so I can comment more on that once I create the mix and use it. So far I am amazed and extremely happy with the results.

Hi there. I just wanted to congratulate you. I am in my 50’s and have tried many many beauty rutins. By far this is the best ever. I found your post and decided to try; it has been a week and already I am receiving compliments. At night after the wash I apply cocunut oil. In the morning after the wash, I apply hemp seed oil. My acne scars are less visible and my age and acne spots are begining to even out/fade. Marvelous! God bless you!

Nicole J.
I’m very excited to start doing this method! I’ve have acne prone skin since I was a teenager. It cleared up for a few years but then came back with a vengeance! I now have redness, blemishes, and big pimples that pop up and are really sore! I’m 24 now, and I’ve been looking through your website ever since my sister-in-law mentioned it, and I’ll definitely be using some recipes mentioned here, starting with this one! I went to the store today to stock up on baking soda, apple cider vinegar, and some local honey! I hope this works well for me!
Jacq Attack
Ok, so I am a little late to this game, but I am going to start cleansing with honey starting today. Additionally, I will use the makeup remover regimen at night with honey and baking soda. I recently went through thyroid issues, so my face is taking a beating and I need something to fix it that is natural and effective. I can’t wait! Jacqui

I have been struggling with new pimples, and scars from my nervous habit of picking them for around 7 years now. (I am 27.) I have been trying different all natural, home made facial cleansers, for about a month now, with mixed results, though all good. I will be washing my face with only honey, for a month, and will try my best to repost how this goes. (I decided on a full month because I have found that my cycle affects my face big time, so I want to see a whole month of results to be fair. 🙂 So far, the honey really helps at taking inflammation out of my face, and gives me a soft glow in the morning. Otherwise I am working to stop picking all together, and really change my eating habits, which has been a huge factor. Thanks! (If there are others out there struggling to stop nervous picking there is a great site you can search for called stop picking on me, with tons of help and support.)
AnnMarie
I use honey on my skin when it feels dry and it works wonders! love it!

Betty, It’s been 3 months since I’ve been washing my face with honey. It has changed my life. The strange thing is that as a teen, a friend’s mom told me to wash my acned face with honey and lemon. I never tried it. I just shrugged her off. At age 42, still having breakouts and large pores, I resolved cure my problem skin. I saw your site and thought hmmm. What a difference! I am confident to leave the house without make-up. My skin is calm. I often leave on the honey for 20 minutes once a day or every other day. Everyone should know about this. THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!

Hi Betty! I have taken up this challenge since 3 days. I have a lot of pimples of my face and they seem to get aggravated after I massage in the honey. They just become red! Apart from that my face doesn’t dry up and I don’t feel a need to moisturize. Do you think I should just continue with it and see where it takes me? Thanks a lot!
Megan Ladner
I, Megan, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses.

Seriously, this is so awesome. My skin has never been nicer – and i tend toward the oily/breakout prone side.

I’m reading the posts and seeing that a lot of people are reporting dry skin by using honey on their face. There’s one tip that has helped me with dry skin over the years. That is toning with organic apple cider vinegar. I mix a cap full or 2 in an 8 ounce spray bottle and store it in the fridge to keep it cold. After cleansing just spray in on face and it naturally balances the PH levels of your skin. This keeps your oils just where they need to be. Results are skin not too dry and not too oily, but just right :). Don’t rinse off the vinegar! After spraying you can spread it on face with cotton swab. Then just moisturize like usual. Works awesome!!
SweetD
Ok…. Just stumbled upon your site….( Thank you Pinteret!!). And I am definately trying sooooo many of these recipes! Having a “ladies night in” this weekend and going to whip up some (yummy) facial scrubs.. Hair treatments and face washes. Soo excited!! Will let everyone know how it goes!!

I’m in my mid 20s and have been suffering from perioral dermatitis for a couple of years now. The only ‘solution’ from the two different dermatologists I saw was to go on antibiotics for 1 -3 months and use nasty cortisone creams, which I did and the dermatitis returned… I was getting desperate cos I couldn’t work out what triggered it or how to keep it at bay.
Then I discovered this!! Since I started to wash my face with raw honey a couple of months ago my skin is better than it has been in years. While the dermatitis hasn’t totally gone, it is almost gone and feels under control. Plus, my skin is so much more radiant that it doesn’t really bother me anymore. Sometimes I leave it on my skin for longer (like an hour) while I’m just pottering around the house as it seems a waste to wash off all the goodness so quickly! It really is ‘slightly drying’ and ‘incredibly moisturizing’ as the blog says. I have been recommending this treatment to all my friends, it’s fabulous and it’s natural!
On a side note, later on I read something by another someone else who had dermatitis and she said that drinking (black) tea really affected her skin. It’s kind of hard to confirm this when I guess there are probably a bunch of variables, but while I’ve been cutting out black tea my skin has improved. I think I’ll only be drinking it occasionally from now, which is sad (I’m English!) but good to know…
Thank you Betty!

I started the honey challenge a few days ago. I’ve been dealing with some pretty bad acne, sometimes cystic, since saying good-bye to the birth control pill and hello to PCOS about two years ago.
I’ve been using some form of acne medication since I was 13, but it doesn’t seem to have much affect on the acne now. Plus, I’m just not excited about the fact that I’ve been rubbing chemicals into my skin for 12 years. So I’m really hoping the honey face wash works!
I’ve been using the honey/baking soda/ACV method at night, as described in your Food on Your Face book because I still am wearing make-up (you know, to deal with the low self-esteem caused by all those zits and zit scars) and then just straight honey in the morning.
I’m still noticing some big zits popping up, around day 5, but I’m hoping that my skin’s still raging against the harsh face wash I had been using and the face medications.
Here’s to hoping the honey’s a success!
Autumn
I have a question about this challenge! If I wash my face with honey for two weeks, do I stop after the two weeks are over?

I am going to try it. I have terrible acne – this last breakout has been going on for months, and nothing seemed to work! I stopped wasting my money at the dermatologist and oc stuff just made it worse or dried out my skin. About 2 weeks ago I started using an egg white face mask roughly 3 times a week & hallelujah! I have no new breakouts – none whatsoever! I used to use oc astringent because of my oily skin, but about the same time I started using the eggs, I switched to ACV every morning & it seems to be working too. I have lots of spots & a few acne scars, but it feels sooo good not to wake up & see a new pimple every day. It seems my skin responds to natural ingredients – who knew? I was going to get a cream to get rid of the spots, but do you know of any natural ingredient that could do the job?
Oh, and I add a little honey to my egg mask – it makes my skin glow. I normally just wash with plain water before, but i’m gonna use the honey & see how it goes!
Meg
Hey I just found this. I have severe, cystic acne that doesn’t react at all to conventional creams, so I’m going to take your Honey Challenge.
Whitney
I’m going to start doing this! I can’t wait to see some results, hopefully good ones!
Jenny Allen Easley
I am going to do this challenge!
Chelsea Anne
I, Chelsea, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses.
Julie Main Schnatterly
I tried the oil cleansing method and had such success (all those tight little lines starting around my eyes were getting worse with soap) – so I’m willing to try this once a day to help with the minor breakouts!
Julie Main Schnatterly
Sign me UP for the challenge!!! (just in case I needed specific wording!)
Ashley Trinh
I hereby agree to do this challenge. I’m going to start today, and do a honey wash every morning, with the oil cleansing method in the evening. I’m REALLY BAD at reminding myself that I need to stop being lazy and to actually DO THESE THINGS, so here I am putting it in writing for the first time. Thanks Crunchy Betty!
Breeze
Have been doing this for a couple of months now and I swear by it! Best thing is, if it runs into your mouth MmmmMMmm it doesn’t matter. So I can treat those lips too. Followed by an Apple cider and water toner then avocado oil. Never felt better about my skin.
yunafix
I solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses!

Day 7: while my skin looks a lot brighter, I am getting weird bumps in blackhead problem areas.
yunafix
Ok I did the full 2 week challenge. I think honey is great for removing old skin and blackheads. It definitely disagreed with my skin, while my skin looked a lot brighter and healthier, I started to get eczema which I have never had on my face before. I think I am going to downgrade to a facial scrub

Hi, I am new…..been really trying to go natural with beauty and diet! This site is awesome helping me find out about all that! But I fear I have, what I know will be a stupid question once I know the answer, but here goes: everyone keeps referring to OCM. What the h@ll does OCM stand for? Seriously I know once I have the answer I will literally slap my forehead and say duh, can’t believe I couldn’t figure that out…but I can’t!! Help!
Kellie
I was wondering that too! I looked it up and I am pretty sure they are referring to “oil cleansing method” hope that helps (and is correct!)
DKing
Hey guys! I just started washing my face with honey. I bought organic raw, pure honey at whole foods. I noticed while I was reading up on it, people add sugar (or baking soda) to the honey to exfoliate but the honey I bought is already pretty granule-y sugar-wise which feels quite exfoliating already. And now I’m kind of wondering if I shouldn’t use it every day because of that? Looking at your video yours seems much more liquid-y than mine. Anyway, I just started last night and I’m leaving it on for a while this morning, and I hope it doesn’t dry my skin out! 🙁 usually my skin is too oily haha.
Cassie
if your skin is oily it should be fine and be quite nice for your skin, if your skin likes it.. where did you buy raw pure honey? Would this be better then bottled honey at the grocery store??
Carreen Cole
I hope that you have gotten an answer by now but if not… Yes, you should ONLY be using raw honey. NOT regular honey from the grocery store!
Samantha Schz
you have to heat the honey so it gets more liquid 😉
Rebecca
Hi everyone! I just started the 2 weeks honey challenge 3 days ago. While I’m excited about it, I find it very drying for my skin. After a wash, my skin feels tight and itches very lightly. I have pimples and a combination to oil skin. I want to know if this is something that most of you have experienced? Please let me know. PS: I use it twice daily.
Mother Earth of four boys
I have really dry skin and will be headed to my local apple crate store for the ingredients for your facial oil stuff…after reading the honey comments under mine I was kinda scared to have my face get dryer….but still going to do it and make me some moisturizer. Any suggestions for me?
Mother Earth of four boys
I’MTAKING THE OATH OF CRUNCH):
I, Kasie solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses. I did it today and felt like a princess. Thanks Crunchy Betty. Gonna look so nice when my soldier returns.

I know this post is technically ancient in internet times, but I’ve been scouring your blog for new ideas and this is definitely one of them! I also used your $10 promo for Vitacost, so I hope you get credit for that! I bought out the whole store. Anyway, I’m sitting here with honey on my face and drinking a green smoothie. I fell hella healthy right now. I’m going to do it for two weeks (I KNOW, I’m late 🙂 and see what happens! I also got some jojoba oil, carrot seed oil, and lemon grass essential oil to whip up some face lotion. AND THE CRUNCHINESS BEGINSSSSSSSSSS
Kristi
I love the ocm treatment, but I’ve had to temporarily postpone using it since finding out the olive oil I use wasn’t really “extra virgin” (I’m waiting until I can get to Costco for the Kirkland brand). I happened to have some really nice raw honey at hand, so I decided to wash with that for a while.
I’ve gotta say, it works very nicely too! I’m definitely going to continue using it along with ocm. I actually like to use it at night because I can leave it on longer, and because I tend to be oilier at night, so it keeps my face nice and dry.
I’m also surprised that even though it dries my face a little, my face doesn’t act up to it and try to produce more oil, which was always the case when I tried conventional cleansers. I’ve also noticed that my acne scars don’t seem to be as noticeable.
So yeah, honey has my seal of approval.
Kelsey McKinney
I’m in!
Ashriel D'aethe
I’ve just started this challenge and I love it! I’m still keeping my castor oil for deep moisturising cleansing but I’m switching to plain honey for everyday – thanks for this tip Betty!
I got inspired and made up a nice body wash with ev organic coconut oil, sweet almond oil, honey and ylang ylang oil too which is very luxurious and does a great job to boot :).

I, Efuwa G, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses.

PEOPLE! while crunchybetty has the concept down. there is a CERTAIN type of honey you want to use for your face. make sure it’s ORGANIC, PURE AND RAW honey with no preservatives or any other additional ingredients! make sure it’s not the honey from one of those bear containers. honey in its purest form and it should have a WHITE OR BEIGEY color, not the dark honey you usually see because that will be too abrasive and harsh.. you wanna make sure it doesn’t feel grainy and it should have a soft and thin texture! light honey for skin, dark honey for health. you can get this honey from any health food store, farmers markets or at whole foods. remember, it has to be light in color!
Jamie
Definitely going to find some honey!
Hannah
Im washing my face with honey everyday for two weeks!!! 🙂

Im signing up for the challenge after i but some honey
Kim
I wil definitely take the challenge! This could not be a better time, as I have already been doing this and other “natural stuff” to grow my hair healthy. I’m oiling my hair for growth, doing research on essential and carrier oils, watching oiling videos on youtube, and making my own homemade shampoo too! My e- mail is : [email protected]. Please put me in the drawing! I’m from Murphy, NC and would love to win some honey! I try to eat a tablespoon or more everyday!
Tswanson
I am signing up for the challenge! 🙂 i have been doing it for 3 days now!

I Samantha solemnly swear to wash my face with honey everyday for the next two weeks no exceptions no excuses

I have used honey before and I liked it at first. But then after a week of using it, I broke out pretty bad and it only got worse from then on so I stopped using it. Then I switched to washing my face with oats instead and it immediately calmed my skin down and helped my skin get back to normal. I love using at-home cleansers, toners, scrubs, anything! When looking at some more at-home recipes, I came across this webpage and others recommending honey as a daily face cleanser. I’m pretty skeptical/scared to try it again but I think I will. I’ve read from several sources that it’s suppose to get worse before it gets better (which I didn’t know before) so I will stick to it!
I, lesley, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses 😀
Mary
How did it turn out?
Aasia
use honey and oats ( grind in a coffee grinder) in 1:1 ratio, that is, if you are making one cup: half cup honey and half cup oats. then mix and use. I intend to do the same.
Kelly Jo Carnahan
I, Kelly Jo, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses.

going to try. my honey is from an amish farm and doesnt say raw or natural but its what i have so will give it a whirl. dont have the funds to always get what us the best or organic. QUESTION for you. ive searched thru and havent seen anything… do you have a favorite homemade general cleaner? i have switched to most of your receipes. love alvin corn

I’m using pure aloe vera (directly from the leave) and raw honey as a face wash for more than two weeks now. My skin looks great! What I do; every morning when I have my shower I rub the inside of an aloe vera leave all over my face. Then I take a handful of honey and rub it all over my face as well. Rinse it with water and done. After drying my face I spray it with pure rose water. It works kind of like a toner and smells delicious.
At night I do the same, only now I use a face brush to give my face a little scrub. I leave the aloe / honey on my face for about 5 minutes, then rinse it with water. When my skin feels dry I put a few drops of pure macadamia nut oil on a cotton bud and pat my skin with it. Usually in the evening before I go to bed. Macadamia nut oil isn’t as greasy as other oils, and my skin feels instantly smoother and less dry.
Natalie Kimble
Hmm, that is interesting you say honey is slightly drying. I have washed with it before and used it as a spot treatment and it seemed to infuse my already ugly zits with moisture! Isn’t it a humectant? I would love for it to work for me.
Liz76522too
I don’t know how new this is, but I’m in. Old and wrinkled bites, but dry and rough is worse. I’m starting tonight!
Tehi
I am taking the challenge beginning tomorrow 6/6/2012, can’t wait to see my how my skin looks and feels! 🙂
Gina Hoskins
Only been doing this for 2 days and I’m breaking out really bad…is this normal? Is my skin purging itself? Because I’m ready to stop. I’m using pure organic honey too.
PaulaL
I have the same thing happening, but I read that it’s normal to see an increase in pimples at the beginning. It’s one of those “it gets worse before it gets better” routines.
Theritzyflapper
I’m completely in! 🙂 iv been doing the OCM for about 2 1/2 years and love it! 🙂 lets see how honey does for me 🙂 I’m hoping it will have a small lightening effect as well! 🙂

I started cleaning my face with honey a month ago because I was battling a case of dermatitis that would not go away. I had gotten acupuncture, Chinese herbs, and had tried all kinds of other natural remedies but only honey worked. Now I use it always and love how my skin looks and feels.
Tammy
So could you use this in the morning and the use the oil method in the evening?
Samsalmon White
I’ve been washing my face with a local raw honey for about a month, and the improvement was almost immediate. After a week, I only had a bit of scarring left, and now that it’s been a month I’ve have one (count it, ONE!) hormonal pimple on my chin, whereas I usually get six or seven (or eight. . . or nine). And it’s totally teeny-weeny! Usually they’re huge and cystic, content to remain an incredibly painful lump the size of Everest, taking up half of my face. My skin has never been more clear and soft.
Angie Rice
I, Angie, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses. Adult acne sucks! C’mon Mr. Bumble Bee… make me pretty!
Beekeeper's Daughter
Angie, as the daughter of a beekeeper, it would be the Honey Bee who makes your beauty treatment.
Raw honey works for many other things, too. It is a good dressing for wounds and rashes. Plus it’s good to eat!
Eating a tablespoon of raw LOCAL (from your area) is good for some allergies.
There are many more praises i have for honey, but this is my two cents for now.
Stamatia Eliakis
I, Tia, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses.
(it’s actually been a few days already – some dryness (making the skin under my eyebrows flake) and a breakout in the last day or two on my chin, but I blame my period, not the honey. I bought castor, sweet almond, and jojoba oils to try OCM at night, although I might nix that since I have trouble keeping up with my laundry (three machines in our building of 30-40 units, always busy), but I have started using the jojoba on my eyebrows…so far, so good!
I love that I’m at the bottom of my jar (of local, organic honey) – the crystallized bits are great for scrubbing!
Sandy
Okay, I’m super late to this challenge, but I am taking the oath of crunch now! I’ve been doing OCM for a couple months and things were going well (absolutely NO oily skin and break-outs seriously restricted), but pregnancy hormones have caused some dryness on the jawline and a big break-out on my chin. I’ve used ACV toner and tea tree oil with some benefits, but have decided to give the honey wash a spin for a couple weeks. I started 3 days ago and the blemishes are drying up and the dryness is much improved (especially after a good exfoliation with baking soda last night!). Hoping to see some of that glow and anti-aging benefit, too!
Sandy
Update time! I LOVE HONEY FACE WASHING!!! I still use OCM at night, but I’ve dropped the ACV toner. There is simply no need for it when I use honey in the morning. My skin is almost completely clear (blaming those pregnancy hormones for the 1 pimple I currently have) and it is soft, smooth, and I think I look younger, too. My 1 lb. jar of organic, raw honey cost me $10 and lasted me 3 months. I just bought another one. That’s less than $4/month, people! Cheap and awesome! This is definitely something I will do forever! Thanks, Betty!!!!
Cassie
where did you buy the raw organic honey?
Carolyn Howard
I bought some Manuka honey from Vitacost. Manuka is more expensive, but definitely worth the money.
Jaime
I have awful acne prone skin and even the oil cleansing method (which I have only been doing for a week or so) isn’t helping much… I just tried honey for the first time and my skin feels so smooth and gorgeous.
Plus I smell amazing.I am using raw organic manuka honey and it has slight granules so I really enjoyed using it on my lips and rubbing them with a cloth to exfoliate.
I can’t wait to see how the next two weeks go!
Charleigh Rose
I am in.

I, Norine Tan, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses.

This absolutely works! I love love love this. My face is way less red, my acne is clearing up fast and my skin is soft. I was using Apple Cider Vinegar for two weeks, as my follow up astringent but it was a) too stinky b) my husband didn’t want to kiss me afterwards c) despite follow up cleaning after ACV I still had an odor and overly dry skin, so now I use lemon juice with the occasional (like 5% of the time) ACV. I swear even some of my acne raised scars are going away. Plus I don’t find the need to correct my skin with moisturizers or my salicylic acid peels and other acne treatments. THANK YOU!!!
Elizabeth Macduffie
I’m doing this. I have local raw honey handy and I love natural skincare.

Alright, I’m in…. skeptical, but i’m in. I get bad bouts of cystic acne and at this point in my life, i’m willing to try ANYTHING if it will keep these mountains from growing on my face! The only thing that has kind of worked up to this point is hormone meds…and that’s a BIG kind of worked.
Tomorrow morning, I will start my Honey challenge.
Sarah
My mother and I both also deal with cystic acne that keeps us afraid to try natural remedies. PLEASE let us know if the honey wash works for you!
Maria
I will be trying this and hope it helps with my oily skin

I’m going to have to try this! I’ve always had acne prone skin and I’ve been looking for an all natural way to clean my skin as I’m trying to keep chemicals out of my house.
Cute video! My 20 month old son was totally dancing to your song the whole time I was watching it!
Ekahunanui
did this work for you? I ask because I’ve always had acne prone skin and started using the honey/baking soda mix about a month ago. My face has never felt more supple, more healthy and I haven’t had a major breakout since I started. I may get one or two small ones (that are easily covered with some powder) but they’re gone the next day. I love it!
Betty Clark
I am doing this challenge! My skin is just not happy right now and I have read about the benefits of honey elsewhere! I am ready to get some glowing skin!

I’m having a similar problem as other readers. I started washing my face with honey almost daily about a month ago and now my face is incredibly dry. I have these bumpy, red, flaky patches all over my face that no moisturizer can seem to heal. Any suggestions?
Em
that’s you SINGING! <3!!!
I will try this tonight! thanks so much for your great blog! 😀

I’m definitely going to try this!! 🙂 I have some raw bee honey that I’m going to use, but I’m also curious if cactus honey (like agave nectar) would work too? Hmm…

I need help! I started washing my face twice a day with honey and everything was going great until….I ran out. I went to get more but this time I got good RAW honey, now my skin has gotten really dry! I always follow up with coconut oil but even that isn’t taking away the dryness.
Cassie
where did you get the raw honey? and why do you think it made your skin so dry? I would love to dry mine out, Im so oily! Try using aloe vera, it works like a charm for me at least (:
Juan Carlos
moisturize with 100% jojoba oil, 7.99 at trader joes

I just started washing my face with honey, but the skin under my eyes has become itchy and there are some small, pink bumps that look like some sort of allergic reaction. I don’t know if this is directly because of the honey, because I’ve consumed it before with no issue, or if it’s only because it’s my first time putting it on the skin? Does anyone have any advice? I want to continue this, but I’m afraid that’s not possible if my skin breaks out in a rash :/
Sha'ahn
Ive been doing the honey challenge for two days now, and have noticed that it feels dry. what should I use as a moisturizer?
Jay C
Moisturizer ._.
Sarah
If you don’t want to use a store-bought moisturizer, jojoba oil is a great way to replenish dry skin. It’s the closest plant oil we have to our body’s natural sebum, and it is perfect for moisturizing without causing breakouts or leaving skin greasy. I love it– a couple of drops on a cotton ball and apply to your face.
Raegan
I usually use aloe vera gel. Every second day, I use it as a “moisturizer”.
Cassie
perhaps aloe vera. I should help some.
Juan Carlos
jojoba Oil !!!!

Hi Betty! I have been washing my face with raw honey in the morning, and at night after removing makeup with soap- is this bad for skin? :/ I leave it on in the evening for about an hour.
Thanks

I just discovered your blog this past weekend – am totally enjoying reading – and now – I really enjoyed this little video -very informative but also fun and cute! thanks for all the great tips!
Andrea Gommans
Amazing! A bit late to join, but I did it and mys say: This is the best cleanser I have ever used, soft skin and not much moisturiser needed. I ran out of honey, used my Clinique washgel for a few washes and had a breakout!!!! Tells you something.
María
amo este blog-i love this blog!!!!!!!!!
Rosie
Hi Betty,
I found this well after your challenge had started but have started washing my face with honey TWICE a day (removing my make up with jojoba oil at night and then using the honey as a mask/wash) and have also been using milk and nutmeg and sometimes oatmeal for scrub and my skin looks soooooo much better than when I was using any of a number of face washes. I’m so happy to have found your site! I’d already been using various oils for skincare but certainly didn’t realize how great honey was 🙂
Thanks!
Tuwana
It’s me again… I forgot the oath.
I Tuwana solemly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no EXECPTIONS, no EXCUSES!!!!!!!
Will this help for the dark stops you get from pickiing with the bumps on your face. Yeah I know I shouldn’t be picking (:<).
Tuwana
I purchased: Really Raw Honey I was told to just put it on my face straight from the jar is that correct? Also, is the challenge for night and day for two weeks? How long is too long for it to be on your face?
Stormi
I’m totally doing this! I can’t wait! 🙂
Thank you Crunchy Betty!
Tisha
really wanted to love this. i could only do it for two days. soon started noticing little bumps ALL OVER MY FACE. stopped before it got to severe. oh well. back to my non-crunchy routine.
Ash
I feel like this may be a dumb question but, is it ok to do this honey wash in the AM and the makeup removing honey wash in the PM? Also, what about OCM in the AM and the makeup removing honey wash in the PM? I’ve been fighting acne for about 14 years now (pretty sure its a PCOS symptom) and I want to get this right!
Sandy
While I can’t truly answer your questions, I can tell you this: I have PCOS, too and have struggled with cystic acne and super oily skin my whole life (I’m 35 now). Here is my routine: I use OCM at night (2/3 castor oil, 1/3 jojoba oil, several drops of tea tree and lavender oil in the mix) and honey wash in the morning. Rub it onto my face, wait a couple minutes and then I jump in the shower to rinse it off. I still get one or two blemishes, but I’m blaming that on my pregnancy hormones. Good luck!! (I know you posted this 9 months ago, so I certainly hope you’ve started the honey wash by now…it’s amazing!)
starsheen
now I’m going to feel stupid but what is OCM?
Ginny
It’s short for the “oil cleansing method”,which is also amazing even if you have oily skin. You can read more about it on here
Amanda Lancaster
All I can say is WOW! I tried this for the first time today and my skin feels so amazing! I’m actually looking forward to washing my face. I have obnoxiously sensitive skin and even the gentlest cleansers burn and leave my skin feeling tight and dry. But honey made it super soft and soothed.
Thank you! times a million!
Monroe H.
I, Monroe, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses.
I’m going to do the honey in the mornings and the honey/OCM at night and see what happens. I did the OCM last night and I washed my face with honey this morning, and I can’t remember the last time my skin felt this SMOOTH!
I became a vegan a few months back and have started to weed out all the commercial nastiness in my life. More specifically, though, I’m ready to quit Proactiv with its harsh chemicals and nasty preservatives, and this seems like an awesome way to start.
Thank you!
Liz
vegans don’t use honey…….
guest
First off, that comment was unnecesary. Second, there is a spectrum for how strict a vegan can be. Some DO eat bee products and wear leather on the other end there are those that don’t. Both can technically be vegans.
Karin
I’ve been doing the honey face wash for 2 weeks now. (I tried OCM & couldn’t handle the intense breakouts. (I’ll try it again someday because it did make my face feel amazing. The breakouts happened at the edge of my face where I think maybe I didn’t rinse well enough.) Anyway the luxurious honey cured all.
Thank you!

I’m in! Started this morning. Doing a blog post about it now.

First of all, I Love your site! Thanks for taking the time and getting us such wonderful beauty recipes.
Okay, so about 3 weeks ago I started your honey face wash challenge. Everything was going great the first week, my skin cleared up and I didn’t even need any moisturizers so I was in love with it! About the middle of the second week I started noticing little bumps on my cheeks and by the end of the week, my face was in FULL BLOWN break out mode. I mean I broke out EVERYWHERE! What did I do wrong?! I’ve been washing 2 a day with it and letting soak in for a while but my face has not improved. HELP!
sophi
hi, i found this just two days ago, and had some questions about this method.
can i use this at night after i remove my makeup with makeup remover wipes? and also, should i use a toner after i wash my face (if i don’t use baking soda)?
Candice
I’m on Day 10 of the honey face wash now and I *love* it. Although I’m lucky to have pretty good skin, I do have some damage caused by having an out-in-the-sun all day job about 10 years ago. Also, once I hit 30, I started having “monthly breakouts”. Ugh. Anyway, the honey wash has already helped with both of those things! For the first time in 6 years I didn’t have hormonal breakouts, AND I didn’t have to spend a lot of money. Also, I’m noticing improvements to the sun damage in my skin already. It’s amazing. Thanks so much for the post, and for this entire site! I’ve been having so much fun trying the different recipes and coming up with some on my own. Love it!
Teenna
Just wanted to say… I’m in love with your site, who you are, and what you do. I’ve been doing the honey cleanse for about two weeks now, and my skin has NEVER looked better. I’ve been plagued by acne since I was a pre-teen, going from medication to medication, trying “natural” and ayurvedic-based methods for over a year, then going back to harsh medicated creams because nothing else seemed to work. A friend introduced me to your site a month ago, and I’ve then started doing the Oil Facial Cleanse at night to remove makeup, then the Honey Facial Cleanse afterwards to clarify my skin, and then again in the morning.
I’ve stopped using medicated creams, feel no need to moisturize, and my skin absolutely GLOWS, with the acne having decreased ten-fold. Even when they do come up, they go away just as quickly! I’ve also heard quite a lot about Manuka honey and it’s incredible properties for all sorts of ailments, so I’m going to start using that as a spot-treatment, leave on overnight thing for my hormonally charged breakouts that still occur every month. AND I’m going to buy your book!
So thank you for all that you do. You’ve changed mine and my friend’s life (who has truly become a crunchy girl because of you)!
Julia Ross
I am so excited to try this! I’ve always been interested in trying organic remedies and my sisters have been using this Honey tip and they love it ! Thank you so much for all that you do and you have a new fan for sure! count me in ! forever crunchy betty!

I use sunblock daily and pressed face powder, occasionally. Is the honey wash enough to remove sunblock and face powder? I plan to do the OCM, but not yet ready to a nightly ritual of it.
starfishnet
I forgot to mention, that I normally wash my face a second time in the middle of the day, thus the question if the honey wash would be strong enough to remove traces of sunblock and/or face powder. I hope it is, it will be a good replacement to the face wash I carry daily in my purse. It will be weird finding some honey in my bag but, if I get better results, then who cares?
Sharon
So late in finding you, so happy I did and I’m so in! I’ve been doing the ocm for 3 day and love it. Going to start the honey challenge. Here is my question…should I do the honey after exercising? I’m a fitness instructor and I’m not sure just what to do o cleanse my face after teaching. Honey? What are your thoughts?
So excited to step into the crunchy world!
Sharon
ann
okay! I’m in too 🙂

can honey go on the eyes, in the shower, please?
Grace
Do you use any sort of moisturizer after washing your face with honey?
MandyMoo
I’ve been washing my face with honey every morning for the past week (and OCM at night), and I love it! I don’t know that my skin *looks* better, but it certainly feels better. And when my face sweats (because it is HOT when I’m on campus), it smells like honey! It’s pretty awesome.
Charmaine
Founda your recently when I was googling on OCM.
I’m so taking up the honey challenge first as mountain rose herbs is out of jojoba oil for now!
I have normal-oily skin with frequent rash breakouts, currently on medication but I feel the need to move beyond commercial cleansers.
Thanks so much for all the wonderful ideas!

Question… Found your blog YESTERDAY! 🙂
Just got back from Whole Foods with my Castor Oil and Jojoba Oil (already had tea tree) to begin the OCM….just did my first wash!
So…. the honey thing… is that instead of the OCM… WITH the OCM…
I have horribly oily skin…
thanks for your fabulous blog!! blessings, JenMarie
Crunchy Betty
You can use the honey with the OCM (http://crunchybetty.com/removing-your-makeup-the-honey-face-wash-way) or without it – or you could do the honey in the morning and the OCM at night. Congrats on your journey into crunchiness! Can’t wait to hear how it all works for you.
JenMarie
Ooo….thanks for the link!!
Candace
I, Candace Kennedy, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses.
So I know I am way late in learning and beginning this challenge but I am so excited to try it. I have been using yogurt for a while as a mask and recently have been experimenting with blueberries but ibwould have never thought about using honey. I, however, sorta jumped the gun and bought honey before reading the posts, so I did not get the right kind. So tomorrow I will begin this challenge after i purchase pure honey. (it’s too early in the am to go shopping yet). Can’t wait to share the experience of switching to honey from Aveeno. As always, thank you for sharing, I love this site and have learned so much!!!
Ciao,
Candace
Amanda
Started this early this week. Face is breaking out a bit in response BUT I think it’s just because it’s adjusting to something new. I’ve used a bit of apple cider vinegar for toner twice when I felt particularly gross after a shower. My skin is super soft, though; I’m loving that part!
caren
I got in on this a little behind schedule, but yes, i tried it for 2 weeks, and can definitely tell the difference in my skin. I still have some breakouts (57 years old and breaking out like a little schoolgirl; I should be thankful for my oily skin, I guess), but the overall texture has improved. I am even going to get a little cruet for the bathroom sink, as pouring from the jar can get messy.
Thanks for this, and all the great ideas and sharing!
Roseann
Putting the honey pot in the shower ! What a great idea! I’ve had skin problems all my life, and two weeks on honey is doable experiment . Thanks!
Erin
I have been washing my face with mostly with honey since the challenge was posted. Not a far stretch since I used a homemade soap made with honey and castile soap. I have had acne for most of my life and even with antibiotics and retin A I still would get break outs. Since I started using strictly honey I haven’t had a break out and stopped using my prescriptions. This is the first time in a long time that I have made peace with my skin without prescriptions, and its in a crunchy way!
Francesca
I have been doing this for years. Although I keep a bottle of honey in the shower and wash my face there–it’s easier to get out of my hair that way. Anyway, I’m 44 years old and I got carded last weekend going into a casion in Maine.
Erin Friedman
OK – I’ve been doing this for nearly a week now. And you know what? – for the first time in years, my face looks a little bit vibrant. Not dull, not sallow. Alive. And it feels good. I’m turning 51 in a couple of days, so I’ll take what I can get.
Megan
I started this just over a week ago, and I began using the oil-cleansing method the next evening. My skin has looked better than it has in a very, very long time. I have been struggling with estrogen-related adult acne and was broken out solidly from late June until I began using the honey to cleanse in the a.m. I still have some new blemishes and a tiny amount of congestion, but things seem to be clearing up MUCH more quickly and the stuff I’m getting is not as deep or painful. For the first time, I’m seeing some blackheads on my cheeks and am wondering if adding baking soda to my honey or adding in the apple cider vinegar toner might help. I’m happy so far, at the very least, not to be assaulting my skin with chemicals that leave me broken out even worse than I already am. Thanks so much!
Amy
I’m in!
Nadimoon
I’ve been doing this for four days now. Amazing something I love that’s so sweet and simple can give your face such a healthy glow! My skin is actually clearing up and that in itself is a miracle. Since I’ve been an adult my skin has never been clear. No I don’t wear any makeup daily, but when I do it’s only my eyes because my skin breaks out way too easily. Also I hate the chemical smell of makeup it makes me feel ill. I have learned to live without it.
thank you for the challenge I will keep sharing it with others.
Namaste!
~nadimoon

A little late but I’m doin it!
sam
I’m in – this sounds fun!
Michele Guerin
It sounds wierd to me but Im game 🙂 looking forward to the results
Anne Marie
I, Anne Marie, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses!
So excited bought my honey on my lunch hour today….
Anne Marie
It has been almost a week, what a difference already. I am 46 years old and wish I had known about this years ago. I fell like I have been brainwashed into using facewash and chemicals that weren’t good for me. My skin is in bad shape I am hopeful the honey will help! My 17 year old daughter is so lucky I have her hooked as well.
Thanks Crunchy Betty!
Lula Lola
I’m starting right now! The video totally sold me! I just love you!
Joy
I started the honey challenge 5 days ago and my skin is smoother and softer already. I do have to moisturize and have been using Burt’s Bees, but today I started using coconut oil to see what it can do for my 60 year old skin. Actually, I’m 60 years young. Thank you for your blog. I look forward to more ideas to keep my skin healthy in simple ways.
enslavedbyfaeries
This challenge came at the perfect time to rescue my suffering skin! I’m a little late to the party, but I’m now on day 5 of the honey face wash challenge and I couldn’t be more exicted about how my skin looks and feels. Thank you! http://enslavedbyfaeries.blogspot.com/2011/07/honey-face-wash-natural-way-to.html
Lynn
I am taking the challange…so far 2 days, I am impressed…
Lynn
Que'Ana M.J.
We decided to do the “honey face wash” and fell in love! My 20 month old was scratched and we applied honey twice a day to the area. Not only did it clear up beautifully but her skin color came back amazingly great!
Maddy
I’ve been using honey off and on for a couple of years now, and when I was using harsh, store-bought cleansers, it was what I used to pamper and soothe my skin if exfoliating or deep pore cleansing got out of hand. Now that I’m a faithful oil-cleanser, and I just so happen to have some fantastic honey in my cupboard just BEGGING to be used, it makes sense to incorporate it into my daily routine, no? CHALLENGE ACCEPTED, M’CRUNCHY LADY.
Julie
I was on vacation and then it took a few days for me to get to the store to get raw honey, but better late than never, right? I am swearing in right now for the next two weeks. I started this morning and am excited to see what happens! I’ve spent more time admiring you, Betty, than emulating you, but this seems easy enough 🙂 I’ve gone “crunchy” with home care and baby care more than my own beauty routines, but anything that Cleopatra did has to be good enough for me. Here goes!
Tracey
I, Tracey, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses. And, I can’t wait! I love honey, inside and out…. I know my skin will be beautiful. Thank you for this challenge! Tracey 🙂
Karissa
I’m entering the challenge!
Woop woop.
(:
Valerie
Wahoo! I’ve been doing it for almost the full two weeks, but I’m just now officially signing in here. I’m having mixed results, but I promised myself to stick with it. I skipped summer this year by moving from the northern to southern hemisphere (spring into fall), so my skin has been a little confused. I am confident I will find something that works, though!
Aditi
I am loving the Honey Challenge! I have dry-ish skin and it doesn’t help living in sweltering conditions ( I am at home in India for the holidays). The honey makes my face soft and supple without drying it out in anyway. I rotate between regular honey in the morning and honey with less than half a teaspoon of sugar in the evening to help get rid of the grime. Bye, bye overpriced, demoisturizing (is that a word even?) facewash!
Ali
I’ve been in since the beginning of the Challenge and have been loving it! I rotate using the OCM, the homemade almond/oatmeal scrub, and the honey depending on if my skin is sweaty (scrub), has makeup on it (OCM), or neither (honey). So far my skin is loving it! Thanks Betty!
Jenny
here i am, signing up on the last day! i finally got some raw honey 4 days ago and have been washing my face with it ever since (and sneaking spoonfuls to eat while i’m at it!).
i love how it makes my skin feel. but so far, i still have all the blemishes and new ones popping up though.
i plan to keep on with it for the next week and a half though, just to see if my face gets better with time and more honey 🙂
katie b
Ok, I’m in.
RebeccaK
I’m only late signing up; I did start at the official time. I’m loving it! My skin is very soft afterwards, and I must admit that I love periodically licking my lips while I let it soak in.
Anna
I’m almost too late! Gonna bite the bullet and give it a try!
Seanna
My honey, my sweetie, my pal!!! I want you to know that washing my face with honey has cleared up a five (yes, 5!) year bout of excema. It was bad. B – A – D. I’ve seen many dermatologists, several family docs, been to just about every “alternative health” website in the www (whole wide world) and nothing did as much as washing with honey. Utterly miraculous. I always knew there was something magical about bees and honey and wax and royal jelly and all. How the little bees get all *that* from the nectar of flowers just has to be magic. Or a miracle. Either way – my skin is clear, rosy and “petal soft”. After five years. Woooosh! Thank you, from the very depths of my heart. Crunchily yours,
Seanna (pronounced “Shawna”, as in “Sean”)
Krissa
I know I’m really late…but I’m starting today and planning on washing my face with honey at least once a day. Yay! 🙂
Meredith
A little late, but I’m in! (better late than never right? RIGHT!?)
Julie
I, Julie, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses. I know I’m starting late but i’m totally excited!! 😀 I have horrible acne prone skin and nothing ever works sooo I thought why not? Honey doesn’t sound too bad :]
Elisabeth
I started this a few days ago and I am loving it so I figured I better remember to sign up for the challenge before it’s too late.
Tati
Im a little late signing up but I technically did two days ago 🙂 and so far I’m loving it! ^-^
Mary
I, Mary, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses.
Actually, I started last Tuesday, so my two weeks are well under way. I’m just late signing up. I love the honey wash and the OCM. The two mixed together may just be my favorite. Thanks for your blog. I really enjoy your humor and the ideas are fantastically crunchy.
cdnbull
I am so in! I have tried it just twice and think I might be in love. Here is the very best part- if it gets in your mouth, you are not spitting out soap and chemicals, you are tasting the best stuff on earth. Posting this challenge to Facebook and Plurk.
Esther M.W
I, (Esther Matilda Whang, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses.
Angela
I’ve used raw honey as a facial mask before, but I never considered using it as a daily wash. I’ve been doing this for a week now, and although I’m not seeing a change in my skin yet, I have felt one. My skin feels firmer, less dry, and definitely smoother – I usually need to exfoliate every other day, but I haven’t had to do it once this week. The firmness is what’s really getting to me. I’m only 30, and I didn’t realize that my skin wasn’t firm until I started doing this! I’m convinced. This week’s grocery list is going to include a small squeeze bottle for easier use of my facial-cleanser honey.
Moomser
Found out about this today from Jessica Anne at http://www.adventureswiththreegirls.com/and decided to try it out! Very intriguing, starting tonight. Thanks!
p.s. also tweeted, stumbled, fb’d and google+ phew!

I have never used honey to wash my face before. I do use it however as my weekly face mask. I look forward to trying it out as a face wash as well.

Madeline
I, Madeline, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses! Starting tonight, excited!
Kelley
Love it! I had been treating with honey (per your page) for a while… doing the ocm but this is the best!! I love the addition of the honey to the ocm too! my face feels great!
moet
Hi Kelley i just started ocm on sunday with jojoba castor oil & tea tree oil. I was wondering how you incorporated honey into this method. Do you ocm & then use honey or alternate every night between the two. Thanks
guildmaker
i’m in. we’re all in actually. i’m already a convert to honey washing so will get my family involved too. huzzah for honey!

This sounds great! Can’t wait to see the amazingness of honey!
LindsayJ
I just started on Saturday. I’m spending the summer in Beijing and it took quite a search to track down the right kind of honey. But I love it so far!
melody
Today is my second day and i can feel a differance in my skin. I sweat alot in this southern heat and i work with animals so my skin is nasty feeling and iritated. i leave it on for about ten minutes and when i take it off i have baby soft skin.
Kim Kauffman
I’m late joining but I started this yesterday and I’m loving it! We love raw honey!
Amy
This challenge has been amazing! My face is clearer today after a week of honey than it has since before puberty! I’ve blogged about the honey challenge here: http://withgoodthings.com/skincare-game-changer-honey/
Elizabeth Wallace
Helloooo! I’ve been doing the challenge since last Sunday actually so its been a week! So far its great. I have very oily skin so in all this heat and humidity I felt like I was wearing an oily mask there for a couple of days. But its all good. I really notice the honey drawing the impurities out of skin. Also, I have very large pores, which always bothered me, but now, they appear to be shrinking! Hooray for Honey! and bees everywhere! 😀
Lael
Starting tonight!
Lolita
Well I’ve been doing it for around 4 days and I’m loving it.
I have to thin it out the honey just a bit, with a couple of water drops.
Otherwise it’s to thick and hard to spread on my face even when my face it’s moist with water.
My skin has never been this soft and moisturize and it’s only the 4 day :D.
Ellie
I hereby take the oath of crunch! ~e
Lugene Deiotte
I started on Monday and my face is clearing up (I even had a cold sore that came up & cleared up as soon as I started this. My face isn’t oily like usual…even after sweating all day in this 100 degree weather that we’ve been having. My face feels great!
Melanie
I just saw this and I am so excited. I am definitely in for this challenge!
Annemarie
Ok I am SO in on this! I am 2 weeks away from my 29th birthday, and most teens have better skin than I do at times. I get horrible acne from….wait for it…food allergies and had a recent run in with white vinegar (corn allergy). I am so tired of using benzoyl peroxide, or doing a billion step regiment to help clear he angry corn reactions on my face and then switching back to something not so harsh…and to the surprise of my husband, decided to slap some honey on my face and see what happens. He still thinks I’m crazy.
I’m on day 4 today. I’m hooked. It’s even clearing the white heads that started sprouting on my chin last summer and migrated north, and no matter what I have done, could not get rid of them.
Kristy
I’m late, but I’m going give it a try. Loved the video!
Swati
the video was so much fun!!! yeah I read about washing face somewhere else too…tried it once but never again 🙁 shall try it again today…can it be done everyday?? I mean will it remove all the gunk of outside if we do this at night????
Kritika
Hey Crunchy Betty , so I landed on your site by luck and I cant believe there is so much I did not know about food and face and food on face. I really wanna take this challenge but here is the problem, I’m allergic to honey. YES! ALLERGIC! My face becomes the size of a huge pumpkin if I consume or apply honey. Its extremely sad.
I was wondering if there is something as nice and easy as honey that I can wash my face everyday with for two weeks. Any options?
Love
Kritika

I, Tara, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses.
I was delayed a couple of days trying to find raw honey, but I found it (and manuka no less) and now I’m in!
Kathleen
Started Tuesday and I have to say my redness has reduced a noticeable amount and my oily skin is not as bad. I can’t wait til you give us the make up removal cleanser. My honey supplier had even heard about washing your face with it.
Genevieve
Ahh, I’m doing it, I’m doing it! I just discovered you or I can GUARANTEE I’d have started with you. It’s a good thing my husband’s already asleep or he’d be thinking me absolutely crazy when I go wash my face with honey this evening!
Debbie
I’m a little late, but I’m starting tonight. Loved your video! 🙂
Rochelle
I am starting today.
Pamela
I’m in. Every morning for me. 🙂
Moona
I am a first-year top bar organic beekeeper and loving your posts on honey! I am all on this challenge – my face felt GREAT after even the first honey treatment. You rock, Crunchy Betty!
Cassandra
Oh I did this for two days and had a terrible allergic reaction both times! I do have sensitive eczema-prone skin. Sadly I won’t ben continuing to use honey on my face.
Crunchy Betty
I’m curious, was it local honey you were using? Have you had a reaction to honey before? (Local matters, because it contains pollen that is in your local environment, to which you should either a) be desensitized to or b) take a tsp of local honey a day by mouth to build up your tolerance to.)
Cassandra
No it wasn’t local honey. But I am thinking of giving it another go with a different honey. I tried a “regular” honey we had in our pantry and it was ok, no bad reaction. Will research local raw honey at the farmers market asap.
Cassandra
ok so I’ve tried a local raw honey. Less redness and irritation this time, but after 4 times washing with it I’ve decided to stop as my skin is not happy and seems to be getting gradually worse. Boo! I so wanted this to work.
Natica
I washed my face with honey for the last 3 nights & love it. I definitely will make this a regular regimen…thanks so much!
Stacy
ooh ooh ooh I wanna try. Have to go find some local honey tho, so I will start this weekend. You are so stinkin’ cute!
Krista Swan, Mostly Mommyhood
I’m a little late to the party, but I’m joining the challenge! I can’t wait to see the results!
Jessalyn
Gonna do it! I’ve been washing my face with baking soda and egg all summer and it’s been working great so I believe in anything crunchy. =3
Sam
I’m totally down! My skin and hair have decided to go haywire as I get closer and closer to the big 3-0, so I have decided to ditch all the nastiness the commercial world has been cramming down our throats and go “au naturel”!!!! Thank you so much for ALL the useful information. I am going out on my lunch break today to find some RAW honey. Oh and you’re video is AWESOME!
Becky
Am I the only one to talk my husband into trying this? He thinks its a little odd that he is “joining dozens of other gorgeous woman…” but he’s really liking it! He does get to use his own honey, as he’s a newish bee keeper, but still this is great! : )
Holly
Ok, I’m in…my skin has been terrible lately.
belinda
starting tonight!
Sarah, The Petite Gourmet
I think I am going to take the plunge and give this a try. When I first read this, the thought of putting honey on my face made me cringe. However, several weeks ago the thought of washing my face with oil made me freak out and I’ve been washing my face with jojoba oil every night for the last week and a half. So I am willing to give honey a shot. Luckily, I already have raw honey on hand. I bought it to eat but I guess I’ll never really love how honey tastes. So tonight, I embark on my own honey face wash challenge. I really hope it helps my skin.
Lisa @Granola Catholic
I am dragging my two daughters along with me on this challenge and we are loving it. The one blemish I had has cleared up in just 3 days. (I started on Tuesday). We aer soo happy. Just wondering about washing face with sunblock (zinc oxide).

Kimmie
I, Kimmie, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses.

Okay, I’m in! My husband in a beekeeper, so I need to give this a try for him…but most of all for me! I’ve been looking for an all-natural & organic option for my oil-prone, acne-plagued face for a long time, and nothing yet has worked as well as I’m hoping. I think this may be it?!?
Erin
I’m in! I’m in! I’ll start in the mornin :o)

Samalamabingbang
I, Samantha, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses.
I actually started the challenge yesterday, but all I had was pasteurized honey. I just bought some raw honey and washed my face with it, and my skin feels AMAZING! I can’t wait to do it again later today.
Mary
I love this! I’m on day two, and my face and neck look and feel soft and glowing! Thank you!
Julia
I’m doing it! I’m using it in the shower at night though, because I otherwise only give my face a splash of water in the morning.
The honey I have is pretty crystallized, which I think is helping to exfoliate, too.
Bliss
I’m in!

I’ve been cleaning with honey since Sunday and love it. The smell of honey is so nice its a great way to start the day with something so sweet!!!

Erin C.
I, Erin C., solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses.
I’ve been stalking this site for a while, but I found my way here merely trying to get more details on what I can do with the OCM. After 3 months of reading and implementing, my family of 3 is now 98% crunchy! After 15 years of blasting my skin and body with every chemical, pharmaceutical and other lab-made product known to people-kind to try and rid myself of my acne, last year I decided to be nice to myself (inside and out). While my acne and other skin issues are not yet fully eradicated, every week is a new crunchy experiment. Here’s hoping the honey helps too!
Jamie
I, Jamie, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses.
I started on Monday but failed to add my comment until now! So far, I am LOVING the results. 🙂
Sarah
A little late, but I’ll be washing with honey tomorrow morning. I love this challenge and I know how good honey makes my skin feel.
Amy
I’m in. Just did it this morning. My face has been awful with acne since having my 4th child. I have some local honey and i’ ll see if this works.
Juana

I, Sarah Reagan, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses.
Emily_B
So I can’t do this now…being deployed I can’t get my hands on the good stuff (just the prepackaged stuff…NOT the same 🙂 ) But I’m totally doing this when I get home. So I’m in, but not until October-ish 😉
Lindsay
A day late at finding this challenge, but count me in! I tried it tonight and my face feels super soft! Looking forward to your challenge.
Natasha
I, Natasha, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks with honey.
TankGirl9008
God I’m so in! I had a weird iritated spot by my nose this morning, so I slathered my face with honey and it’s so much better now! So! I, Rachel/TankGirl9008, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses.
Michelle

OMG I’ve just tried this for the first time yesterday and I kid you not this morning I went off to the gym without a hint of makeup on for the first time ever.My skin feels and looks great.Even skintone and glowing and I think my pores are smaller too!
WEFA
I, WEFA, solemnly swear to TRY to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks. Im not a beauty Betty so much (I only wear makeup for special occasions) but hopefully I can remember everyday
Alison
Sooo, starting a day late, but starting!!! The video was awesome, and adorable!!
Jesi
Going on Day 2 here of the challenge and I’m LOVING it!!!!! Challenge accepted!
SarahQ
I keep forgetting to come on over here and let you know I’M SO IN. 😀 I’m on day 2 of the washing with honey and I’m already super impressed. This being all crunchy and shite is amazing – I’m never going back! I no longer wear deodorant – except some days I’ll wear the stuff I made based on the recipe on here. I no longer use shampoo or conditioner – about twice a week I wash my hair with the baking soda/water and rinse with the apple cider vinegar/water — my hair has never been so happy – or felt so THICK! And now this. Honey. Amazing.
Oh and btw? That video? Rocked my socks off. I am now barefoot. 🙂
Kristie
Oh wonderful! A new challenge :D. I’ve been no ‘pooing since Nov. and love it! Looking forward to trying this 😀
Courtney
This challenge could not come at a better time. I accept!
Since last summer I experienced a surge in acne on my face, particularly on my cheeks. I finally couldn’t handle it anymore and my doctor put me on two prescriptions in January. I hated it, but I was desperate for relief. I didn’t want to leave my house without sticking a bag over my head! Thankfully the medication worked (although I’ll never do it again) and I was able to stop taking it at the beginning of June. My skin was doing so well and the scarring was disappearing. And then this week happened. I have no idea what’s going on, but slowly my acne is popping back up. I’m trying not to panic, but horror images of my face last January keep racing through my head. So I will more than gladly accept this challenge in the hopes that I can get rid of my acne naturally, once and for all. I’ve been looking for a way to cleanse my face that wouldn’t overly irritate it and this seems to be the answer to my prayers.
Mary Beth
I didn’t get to sign in last night because I was spending the night with my youth group at the church. But I took my honey with me and even washed my face with it in the church bathroom!!! I love it! I’m totally in!
I, Mary Beth, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses.
Andrea
I’m in! Started last night and it felt awesome afterwards. The only drawback is that honey is really hard/sticky in the cold mornings. Even after “warming it up for a min in my hands it still was pretty hard to spread on my face… it even hurt a little! So I just dabbed it on and left it there for a while. Still felt like an egyptian queen though 🙂
Crunchy Betty
Try splashing your face with lukewarm water before putting the honey on. That’ll help with the hard/sticky coldness, and it should help with the pulling feeling.
Gina aka Slappy
If I can drink my boxed wine while the honey sits on my face, then I am in!
Roxane
WHOA! Whodathunkit?! I am totally, completely, 100% IN! Can’t frickin wait to try it.
PS– that video? Pure genius.
Sunflowergurl
I, Sunflowergurl, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses.
Jenny
I’m in! I washed with honey yesterday and today, and I love how moisturizing it is! I just hope I’m not negating all the benefits of the honey by following with the ACV toner!
Ducky
Ohhhhhh I’m gonna look young again!!
Roxie
Just found your blog and LOVE it!
I will be washing my face for 2 weeks with honey. 🙂
Noaa
can we use the regular honey from the store? i know I have pure honey, just not the nice raw kind…
Judith Zuniga
love this. not sure how I ended up getting 172 comments on my blackberry though. Wow. talk about overload. I don’t mind getting comments as to how this is doing for them on my tweet. @sparrowz43, but all in all I will work out the kinks and will happily be doing this every day 2x a day, for 2 weeks.
Crunchy Betty
Ugh. I have NO idea why you would’ve gotten updates on all the comments. Unless you subscribed to the RSS feed for comments via email. The blog decided to go completely wonky today, though. Please check your RSS feed via email subscriptions and see if that was the issue. If that’s not, then I’ll look into it further.
Crunchy Betty
Yep. That was the issue. You had subscribed to the post, so it was sending you updates to all comments. I went ahead and unsubscribed you. If you want to sign up just to receive email updates whenever I add a new blog post (and those will be the only updates you see), go to this link: http://eepurl.com/dyOPn
Thanks, and sorry for the tons of comment notifications!

b_barr

PennyAshevilleNC
THIS IS UNRELATED…..I CAN’T LOGIN TO THE COMMUNITY FOR SOME REASON, CAN IT BE LOOKED INTO?
Also washed with honey and loved it.
Crunchy Betty
Ugh! What a day! So, last night I installed a new cache system, because of another issue here on the main site that I thought was related to caching. Apparently the new system did NOT like the community.
I went back to the old one (and just hope the issue here on the main site fixes itself), and I think the forum’s working fine again. Please try it out and let me know if you have issues again.
There are “good” blog days (yesterday) and there are “bad” blog days (today). I want to go back and live in yesterday for a while, mkay?
Sarah Foskett
Sure thing, sounds like a great plan! Im in 🙂 Im getting amazing honey from my local farmers market so im set to go!

Wow! Great crowd! It’s fun being Crunchy! Blogging @ woodwifejournal.com about my honey adventure as I follow the challenge. Hopefully sending folks over to join in.
Stephanie
I am so in! I washed/massaged my face with honey this morning and left it in for about 20 minutes before rinsing it off. 12 hours later, my skin was looking better than it has in months–all dozen zits were half erased/healed!!!!!! SAY WHAT?!?!?! So now I’m totally hooked… I’m typing this comment as I’m doing the honey wash/mask for the second time today. If my skin continues to be this happy, then I might just have to do this regimen for the rest of my fucking life. Betty, you are my total lover for life. Word.
jasmijn
Taking this challenge!
I am wondering what impure honey is though…
Stephanie Ezzat
I, Stephanie E, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses.

KarinSDCA
My ten year old daughter loves your site, so I showed her the video. She thought it was cute, but she wanted to make sure your cat was okay. She said you are funny! (I agreed.)
So, I braided her hair tonight for some waves tomorrow and I noticed she had bumps on her cheeks that have not gone away. We tried OCM a couple times last week. Tonight, I washed her cheeks and chin with honey. Her comment? “I feel like a piece of toast.” LOL
She said, “I guess I am an unwilling participant in the Crunchy Betty Honey Challenge, too,” with a giggle and a grin…
Crunchy Betty
Ha! Please tell her the kitty is just fine. He’s the most laid back thing you could ever hope to meet. In fact, his favorite thing in the world is to be held upside down. He’ll come up and sit on my lap and lay himself upside down and nudge my hands until I pick him up and his head is facing the floor. Then he purrs and purrs.
I also found him fast asleep in a wet bathroom sink today. Bless his heart.
Hope she loves the challenge. Tell her I said she is a true ambassador of crunchiness. My deputy-in-charge.
Mwah!
KarinSDCA
Awww…he sounds like a sweetheart! 🙂
Chel
Well, I figure since I buy raw honey locally by the quart and can’t finish a jar in a decent time from outside of winter AND could use some help healing my skin…I have no excuse.
Thanks for the idea, and your persistence 🙂 Can’t wait to get started!

I told my three year old that I was going to wash my face with honey today, and his response was decidedly less pro-crunch than I anticipated: “No Mama! Don’t do it! I don’t want you to do it Mama.” Oh the horror.
So how sticky are the cats? They seemed to be unwilling participants. haha The video was such a treat, I shared it on Facebook. And you are just cuter than a box of kittens.

I wash with honey about once a week (and add it to my conditioner sometimes, too). I like it. I also have washed with OO. Like that too. But mostly I wash with just plain water. Honey does make the water taste good.
For poops and giggles, I’m going to go ahead and try the challenge – daily honey washes – and see what I think. 🙂

I, MW, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses.
Should I be nervous about this? I’ve got to say, the no-poo thing has thus far always scared me too much to try with any seriousness, but that’s because the couple of times I’ve started, my hair looks instantly crappier and greasier.
That said, I’ve done honey-pats before, and they always leave my skin feeling great. But should I worry about any short-term breakouts before my skin readjusts, or anything like that?
Allison
I, Allison, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses.
I just did it for the first time this morning (right before I posted the info on my blog/FB/Twitter/the telephone pole across the street). I already love it!
My honey is not only raw and unpasteurized, it’s also unfiltered, so it’s a LOT thicker than your wonderful video. But it still warmed in my hands, and I am sure that I can heat it up for a moment or so if I really feel that I need to. Looking forward to the fun of the challenge – thanks for putting us all up to a little fun and camaraderie!
Anastasia
I, Anastasia, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses.

I actually just washed with it since the post hit my in-box just before I jumped in the shower. Easy peasy and my skin feels good.
PS – for us newbies, what is OCM? I’ve been able to figure out ACV…

I found a great honey at my local farmers market. So excited to try it tonight! Since I’m wearing a bit of makeup, I think I will use the OCM to take it off and then use the honey – because I don’t think I can wait until tomorrow morning to try this on a makeup-free face!

Beth
I, Beth, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses. Sounds like fun!
I found when buying the honey that most of them didn’t say whether they were pasteurised or not, and things like that. I’m sure you’ll go into these things on Wednesday, but I just wanted to mention this slight difficulty. I went for one of the few that did say it was unpasteurised, etc.
Chrissy
I’m in and thank you to Tricia for the heads up. I started last night and cannot believe the difference. I love a good challenge.

I have an awesome farmers market where I live and buy a honey face cleanser from there. Basically it is raw HONEY with a couple of essential oils in it, a tad of lavender etc. I moisturize after a shower with Coconut oil. I have been doing this for 3 years now and always get compliments on my clear skin. I will NEVER go back!!!

Well, my first try, although it’s already past 1PM (I woke up rather late):
My first impression is that honey’s not that good for massaging, since it’s very sticky and pulls my skin a bit. I also had a blonde moment when I put on the honey and later realized I forgot to take off my shirt first (I planned on washing it off in the shower). Also, instead of a wash (instantly washing it off), I was sort of forced to make it a mask (about 10 or so minutes)… My significant other decided to occupy the shower before I had the opportunity to get in.
The results:
As soon as the warm water hit my face, the honey washed off almost instantly, had absolutely no problems washing it off. My face, however, doesn’t feel extremely moisturized, but it doesn’t feel dried out at all either. First time washing, no miracle happened (but I wasn’t expecting one either), I’m interested to see if the results will develop over time.
One thing I did notice, is that my facial skin after washing with honey doesn’t feel so “vulnerable”. After regular facial cleansers, I always feel like my skin is so thin and delicate. After the honey wash, I don’t have that feeling of skin being fragile. I’m actually hoping it will make my skin more resilient. 🙂
Good luck to all others that are in the challenge.
Debbie
I, Debbie, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses.
I have been doing this for about a week now and I am getting comments about how great my skin looks. I have already told my mum about this so I will also get ther to join the challenge.
kylieonwheels
Ok, here’s the deal. I am in. I am in with no excuses. But I am in with exceptions.
I’m a geek. I’m a geek with a history of horrible acne and difficult, sensitive skin. I am currently winning that war with OCM, and I mean really winning it. Skin compliments. First time in my life. I nearly cry when people say my skin looks good. Sometimes I actually do (mostly if it’s dear boyfriend and he actually wants to kiss my cheeks :-).
So you see my nervousness? If it ain’t broke, should I fix it? But then again, I’m curious, and I’m loving finding out that my skin isn’t as oily and sensitive as commercial cleansers would have me think. So I am in. But the geek in me is going to make an experiment out of this. I am going to wash HALF of my face with honey. This way I will see the difference between old, yet bursting with new OCM life face and new, lipsmackin’ honey goodness face.
Sisters, exceptions or not, I am in 🙂
Sabine
I, Sabine, solemnly swear to wash my face with honey every day for two weeks, no exceptions, no excuses 🙂

Oh my gosh, I totally just washed my face with honey for the first time… right before I read this post. (I’ve actually never commented here before, but this was such a coincidence that I felt I had to say something. =]) Not sure about the results yet, but I’ll totally take the challenge.

I’m totally in. I’ve heard about this before, but it’s always been one of those things I never got around to. 🙂

I’m totally in… I’ve already been washing!!! I can’t wait to see what you offer for help in taking off makeup, because I do wear it. But other than that, I’ve been using honey since I first heard of the challenge. FUN! 🙂
Let’s do this and stay fabulous ladies!

I promise to do my crunchy best and seriously hope this will help my amazingly oily skin…. which probably wouldn’t be so oily if I weren’t no pooing with bs paste instead of a watery bs combo *sigh* starting tomorrow that changes too lololol

Alright let’s do this.

I’ve gotta admit, I’ve already started washing with honey for about 3 days now, and I love it so much! My skin is already looking amazing and it’s so soft.I’m excited to continue with it!

I know you said I don’t have to repeat it, but it feels more REAL if I do! 😉
Now to choose a honey from my stash…and put it in the bathroom for the morning’s face washing challenge… BTW, I have that song stuck in my head now (gee, thanks) and that exact same bottle… LOL

Your video is so cute, I have invited my playgroup moms to join the challenge via email and they are getting a kick out of the video. Maybe they’ll be inspired? 😉
Meanwhile, I washed my face last night and this morning with honey. LOVELY!!! Way faster and easier than I expected. It is sticky when you apply it, but it actually rinses really fast and easy. Also, I haven’t felt the need for moisturizer at all. I am very pleasantly surprised!
